Suggestion for Station Planning

Post by Yoko Kurama »

I've been building a lot of stations lately and have sometimes found myself struggling to get modules exactly where I want them, especially in larger complexes with large modules that have many connection nodes (ie: Teladi L Storage). With larger complexes they will snap to seemingly random nodes and I often need to finesse them into place, and even then they don't always connect exactly how I want them. I thought it would be nice if I could just directly grab the node I want to connect and drag it to the node I want it attached to, instead of dragging the module itself (or an entire sequence) across the screen and hoping it connects where I want it.

I also thought it would be handy to have a hotkey for removing a selected module from the build plan. Currently pressing "Del" tries to exit the build plan menu which seems counter-intuitive to me. I would think that trying to escape a menu would be, well, "Esc". Using "Del" to delete modules seems like a much more logical choice.

I've also noticed with larger complexes that the lines that indicate possible connection locations will sometimes drag the FPS down in the build menu due to the sheer number of possible connections. I wondered if it was possible to only draw those lines within a certain radius of the selected module (or node?). There might be a chance for some optimization here.

It would also be nice to have some method to manually change the build order of modules without having to remove and replace modules or entire sequences of modules. Maybe allow us to drag-and-drop modules in the Planned and Changed Modules list?
