So I'm enjoying X4 so far, however I'm puzzeled by a gameplay design decision. To initiate a long range scan, you have to hold down a button for a couple of secons. Hold it too short and the range of your scan is limited. Hold it too long and your scan will fail.
My question is simple: Does anyone enjoy this? It seems to me it just makes long range scanning tedious. Now I understand the scanner requires some time to charge and that's fine but making me time a scan isn't my idea of fun. Let's be honest if a flash on a nineties camera can release when it's done charging by itself, my 2992 AD scanner should be able to manage that just fine.

Re: Long range scanning question
If you think and role-play tactically, it does give you the choice of how powerful and far-ranged you want your scanner pulse to be. Do you really want to alert every hostile in the wide area that you are there?
In real gameplay terms it allows you to home in on a close pinging signal without confusing the issue with more distant target pings (if any), should you wish to do so.

OK that makes sense. It would be nice if there was an option to disable the 'overload' though
