[Feedback] Suggestions to make Fleet, Wing and Turret management easier and more detailed

Post by cool_lad »

I would like to propose the following suggestions to make fleet and ship/turret management a much easier task for players, as well as allow players much greater control over their fleets and ships.

1. The ability to set combat preferences in order of priority rather than one at a time (basic if/else stuff) such as a preference list of targets for both wings and turrets. This would allow the player a lot more detailed control of who their turrets and ships prefer to engage first.

This could be done in the form of a ordered list, where the player can set a hierarchy of preferred targets.

Example: a wing or turret could be assigned to prefer missiles first, then fighters, then M ships, then capital ship subsystems by the player.

2. The ability to set basic behaviour for wings and ships (with each ship in the wing being following the leader). Simple behaviours would be; hit and run, circling, and dogfight.

This would allow the player to get a lot more utility out of the different loadouts that they can create; for example, creating torpedo bombers and interceptors from the same chassis, and then differentiating them using the behaviour assigned to them.

Example: the player could direct a wing of bombers or torpedo fighters to target enemy capital ships using hit and run attacks, while directing interceptors to dogfight enemy fighters.

3. The ability to set preferred engagement ranges for ships; low, medium, high. This would allow the player even more control over how their ships approach engagements, and allow them to use ensure that ships are within the range that they want them to be in vis a vis the enemy.

Example: a player may have a wing of repeater equipped gunboats engage at short range, while that same gunboat when equipped with missiles could be set to engage at long range.

4. A separate wing management tab under the info tab for the lead ship. With each wing being able to be assigned it's own target priorities, behaviour and preferred engagement range. Basically as a way of allowing the player to control the behaviour of their entire fleet and it's immediate subordinate wings using a single interface and thus reducing the amount of back and forth that they have to do.

This would make managing fleets and their subordinate wings much easier and faster, by allowing the player a detailed and easy to manage system of managing combat behavior that can scale from individual ships to massive fleets with multiple wings.

Extra Suggestion:

This may be slightly harder, but I feel would really allow the player to have a great amount of control over the behaviour of their fleets and wings and how they engage in combat.

Another thing that may help with this would be the ability to set an AO (Area of Operations) for each wing or fleet, thus designating the area within which they should engage combatants. This could also allow players to command their fleets and wings in battle much better by simply setting and altering AOs for their subordinates.

Some form of better turret management is highly needed. I am tired of microing my turrets between missile defense and attack. And L turrets making questionable choices.
