[Suggestion] Construction: Make Station Modules "Snap" to Certain Rotations, like 0, 45, 90 degrees relative to Base/Map
Is this suggestion clear? I don't like that freely rotating station components (like weapon component-building ones, I think) don't snap to any rotations. I just have to do my best to make them parallel or perpendicular or whatever to their base component (or to some other reference). Would this be doable? Like most GUI snaps, I would make the "snaps" only trigger when close to them, so people can still rotate basically however they want.

You would have to include other multiples of 30 degrees as the Paranid have a 3 way cross connector. I think that these extras might make it all just too complicated to be worth the coding effort, especially when the build plan becomes more complicated with many clusters of close attachment point options that could attract the 'snap' even where unwanted. A possible alternative might be a more powerful build plan zoom/magnifier facility for use when precisely rotating and aligning modures and their connections.

Yeah, showing us the degrees and having finer control would be MUCH better than my idea, and I meant to include 30 degrees as well. Either way I'd prefer your solution, which might be easier anyways.Alan Phipps wrote: ↑Mon, 11. Holding Control (or Shift?) makes the module rotation snap to 15° intervals. Or do you mean something different?

Seriously?? I'll have to try that, as it sounds like what I'm wanting! I'm guessing this isn't documented... ?Commander_K wrote: ↑Mon, 11. Nov 19, 18:34 Holding Control (or Shift?) makes the module rotation snap to 15° intervals. Or do you mean something different?

I didn't know that but it makes a lot of sense; 15 being a factor of 30 and 45 and their multiples. One for the wiki maybe?

This 'snap' you're describing kinda exists already, rotate an object close enough to an adjacent part with a free node and it should snap itself to that point without too much difficulty.
What I'd like to be able to do is rotate production modules vertically (I think I might be channeling my Teladi from IZ a little too heavily
).
Cheers,
