Cargo Drones supplying cluster of stations

Hello,

IN SHORT : cargo drones between stations > how to make it work?

DETAILED :

To avoid very long building times, I'm slowly trying to setup a cluster of stations, built simultaneously, each of them producing 1 basic ware and supplying the main high tech factory.

At the moment I have : 1 e-cells station, 1 water station, 1 meat station, the 3 of them built around a food/meds factory. All station plots are almost touching one another. Stations are rather small : just basic 3M/6S dock/storage/factories/hab


- Only the food/meds factory has traders assigned.
- All stations have cargo drones and money
- all basic/intermediate wares are restricted from NPC, with sell price minimum and buy price maximum


The idea was that being very close to one another, the cargo drones would supply the station between themselves, avoiding the need to provide traders for ALL stations, as shown in some other posts.

What I noticed :

- mass traffic appears between stations
- no cargo drone movement at all...
- the food/meds factory is doing fine because it has traders which supply from my surrounding stations
- the other stations are slowly running out of energy

Then I added one L dock to the energy station.

- i then saw ONE cargo drone sending e-cells to the main factory, not to the other stations
- then... no cargo drone movement whatsoever... ever

So at the end I have to assign again traders to all of the stations to supply all wares from/to everywhere.


... could someone explain to me how to make these cargo drones lines working between stations? :-)

Fixed ships getting spawned away from ship configuration menu at resupply ships from automatically getting deployables.

Yes I had seen this script description.

I seem to meet all requirements, my basic factories are out of energy so the buy offers should be of at least 20% of the maximum target...

Or is it...? I'll check it and see if it can be manually changed...but that'd be undesirable micromanagement I feel :(

OK I checked both things :

1/ water factory DOES have buy order of 7k+ e-cells out of 8k storage allocated so definitely >20% of total target (that's how I understood the script requirement)
(and solar power plant has about 50% storage full with 50k e-cells to sell)

2/ checked OOS and run SETA for few minutes... nothing


So unfortunately... no idea :-P

I remember reading for X:R that the mass traffic actually did something, possibly related to transferring wares. Is that the case for either game? If not, what does mass traffic do again? I love to see it--just curious if it provides a non-visual function.

I recall it working somewhat in the past. However I think it was removed due to bugs, definitely haven't seen it work in XR 3.0 and above.

The thing is ... it does exist because we've seen it on occasions, and players have reported it working for them... sometimes... and there are lines of code defining conditions for it...

But it is absolutely not consistent, and worse, sometimes (like for me on this playthrough), you can't get it working at all...

Could a Dev clarify whether :

1/ this is actually a feature... or not really?
2/ if yes, how to make it work consistently?

Building is a fun part of this game with all the tools they've come up with, but I hope all the features could be explained more and not hidden 😊

I loved the Distant Worlds Universe encyclopedia for example, it would not only give info about ships or factions or wares... but also actual game concepts and mechanics, I think it's something to get inspiration from 😊
