yoohoo Egosoft Sales?! I have 150$ here that could be yours...

Post by Corporeal »

Just convince me that X4 is, and will remain, a completely off-the-grid compatible game.

The money is contained in a jar, all in ten cent pieces, and the OP wishes to meet Egosoft's Mr Big in a disused factory unit, and exchange it for an untraceable copy of X4 with the serial number filed off.

I'm happy to be a lookout in case, you know, *they're* watching...

:) You wish. I live on the road. I might be closer than you think today.
It's unclear from the information provided wether access to certain content requires participation in ventures &/ altering the game.

Ventures gives some fluff type rewards (skins, some components for upgrading individual ships), but you can get these sorts of things without ventures. Ventures is not necessary at all, imo you are not missimg out on much by not using it. So this game is very much a single player experience.

Ah, LOL, I prefer my explanation...

I play the game single-player, and ventures are entirely optional. There are no enforced multiplayer modules to the game. (Or I'd not be playing it either.)

Umm, sell you my copy for $150... :)

ventures do require interwebs to function. the ventures provide exceptional quality parts for ship mods and paint jobs of varying quality. there are some player created mods that can do similar, doubt interwebs is required for that. Otherwise, X4 will play in "offline mode", just no ventures.

Reminds me of Fallout 3's live functions >.<
Can't say I approve but I just bought my Linux version on GOG.
Will gift one to family too once I can walk them through the registration process >.<

Here's a thought for ya: release an official mod we can all play if we choose?

I'm still not entirely sure what you're asking, but I'll do my best to answer.

1. The game is, and will remain, an essentially offline game.
2. Access to ventures does, by definition, required an internet connection.
3. Venture rewards and venture-related events do, also by definition, require you to participate in ventures.
4. Core gameplay, however, is not dependent on ventures, and we have no intention of making that the case.

Note that participating in ventures and modifying the game are mutually exclusive activities (at least within a given savegame), so I'm not sure why you brought the latter into it.

Didn't know any better. Still don't really. Will see for myself soon though.

I got the impression: (
a) mod the game OR
b) connect to egosoft
): then all content is available

But now it seems: all content is available AND ventures can be used to access it as well.
You're just producing mini-dlcs/content for venture participation rather than straight-up selling it as DLC content.
I prefer the DLC approach for OTG reasons.

They're vouching for your core game tho. Thanks.
If you want to lock go ahead.

yeah, ventures are just click a button and then X hours later (real world time), click another button to get rewards for it. There's not any like special actions to take to participate other than building a station with the venture modules attached and dock a ship in the venture module, and be signed in with the "online features". It's not anything like doing a mission or visiting a sector or anything like that. You can only run 1 venture at a time. Has no bearing on the state of your game play other than the mods you get for the venture rewards, which, technically don't impact your game other than beefing up stats of your ships and/or cosmetics. I mean, they help, but its not like you need them to be combat effective.

The only other thing having ventures enabled does is that other players that are participating in ventures, the ships they send on ventures will appear in your game. They're neutral to all factions, except Xenon and Kha'ak. They just kinda fly around, doing their own thing and don't have any direct interaction with you. They may engage in trading at your station, but that's about it. You can attack them if you so choose. Otherwise, they're just like any other NPC ship in your game. Certainly nothing game changing.

I should just to point out that this may change in the future, with a possible option to send (and therefore also receive) ships on more aggressive missions.

This is what I dont't want and why I asked. Will take me some time to D/L when I find an unlimited hotspot. Till then there's not much to say.

Anything done with ventures can be replaced with mods. Sure it will not use actual interactive with other players stuff, but then again that is not what you want. One can get a mod to simulate online ventures for the point of rewards. It will mark your saves as modified but that only effects the ability to use online ventures and achievements, both of which you likely do not care about.

Is there actually anything ventures do that you can't do in the base game now? Heck, even paint mods (the only reason I can think of doing them) can be gotten from guild missions now. It's a fun feature, but hardly a necessity. Just another way to do things.

afaik, without using player mods, exceptional quality mods can only be acquired from ventures. At least, I've never gotten them as drops or quest rewards. And I believe the pain jobs from ventures are different than what you get from quest rewards.
