Early thoughts just after geting it!(X3super fan)

Post by Novia Star »

Well well. What have we here. All kinds of thoughts about this. Probably should do a + and minus review.
Positive first!
1 Nice environment, I really like the feel of the place and the look of whats around.
2 Station stuff is a nice additive. Coming from X3 i like to walk around a station for a change.
3 Speed of travel. Highways, gates, Travel mode. Super easy to get around.
4 LRScan pulse. Much easier to find those pesky stations. Some X3 sectors were huge and gassy so nope cant find anything.

Unfortunate big early neg list :(
1 Size matters. X3 big X4 tiny.
2 Where are my Boron and Split. Seriously. I loved Boron ships in X3 Space wales! Split ships #2 fav Wedge of death!
3 Where are all the people on the stations. Is space that empty. you have a bar on a station with one person in it. I'm lonely...
4 Boo can't fly a Xenon LX anymore. Don't know why in X3 i just loved flying around in Xenon ships. YA i understand no cockpit. but still.
5! the whole economy seems to be to feed warfs and shipyards. I buy a ship and it stalls forever because the economy is messed up. At start of a game I can't even build 1 cargo ship.

OH things i feel would make the game more awesome. If anyone cares.
1 Ships have other rooms! Bars, crew rooms, Engine. You can tell the captain to fly you somewhere but I want to wander my ship. Like having a player home.
2 A scan ship hotkey. Yes be in scan mode but needs a hot key (that was today's hunt on the forum)
3 You need to go to bars and other places to get missions. Makes you wander the darn station.

ill update the list and check back. I hear they are making new DLC stuff and keeping patches going. Hope with a bit of work it will be super awesome. I don't mind trying to play the game the Devs made, but just a few things and I guess I wouldn't have much to complain about.

Good points, but regarding this one:

It is worth noting that population on stations scales according to workforce number, the more workforce a station has, the more people can be found walking around on it. I don't know if this affects people in bars though.

The same applies to ship crew.

Split DLC will pop up this year.
It's more or less open secret that Borons are in the work too, so it's just a question if they will make for DLC 2.
Also there is technically Boron (singular) in a jar in X4 already.

It was already perfectly answered by Emporer Dragon :) but I am going to describe it a little bit more: The number of people walking around on stations is tied to people working and living there. For this to happen a station needs optional habitats, first. Every station can be (semi-)automated, so workforce is optional, however increases production output. Especially small, freshly built stations often lack habitats. And even if a station has a habitat module, it needs to be filled with people first, which takes ages.

Since NPCs can walk freely on stations, bars and other locations can also always be deserted or overcroweded anytime.

Interesting point concerning the economy. It is the case actually besides building and maintaining stations.

I hope they'll add more consumption ways using the commercial stations, adding more products and possibilities

That is interesting about the NPCs on stations. wonder if i could cripple the economy buy hiring every NPC in a station I find.

I am excited for the DLC I think with Boron and Split sectors and just a few border ones the place will seem big enough to be manageable. X3 did at times seem rather huge. Well you never really said "Hay I could use like a dozen more sectors"... I guess with the super Highways it makes it feel smaller. Like if walking was the only way to get around the world becomes a big place.

The one thing about X games I never got though is Planet side influence. Why even bother with stats. We have awesome space ships but its not economical to liftoff stuff or land stuff. BUT i know i'm asking a space sandbox to do a lot. I wouldn't change that. Just a thought on where consumption and extra resources could come from.

Anyone remember "entering atmosphere" from X3. then boom.

Glad you're (mostly) enjoying it. :) Rather than rain on your parade, after you're a few days in I'd recommend coming back and reading through the first few pages of this forum, and the beta forum. You're going to have questions, and I don't mean gameplay.

Pretty much, i've argued for a more civilian economy, Habitat Stations that you can tax for profits, but require you to build them up first and that takes resources, the larger the population on the Station, the bigger the cash cow you get from them charging rent and of course, other Factions have them so you can build your stations around providing wares for people rather than for war.

Also I mentioned this to Lone_Wolf from previous thread. Shipyards at the beginning of the game tend to start off starving for ship wares. Eventually this changes after a while, new Stations are built by the NPC Factions that provide those wares (Faster if you build them first). Eventually Shipyards and Wharfs are fully stocked and provide ships without running out.
It's later in the game that you find that there is no opportunity to find a ware in high demand and exploit for profitsss, cause the supply is too high and the demand becomes low that nowhere will charge a good price for your wares.
That's a big negative for me.

OK combat is broken. Took out a Xenon K with a Minotaur raider using only mk2 basic guns on main and turrets. I took no damage. I just face hugged it and it came to a stop let me strip all its stuff off and waist it.

I had a similar thing on other space games. Decent Freespace to name a big fav of mine. Just glue yourself to cap ships and their combat AI gets confused.

I am not for anything that feels like a cheat, and this tactic, if you want to call it that, really feels like a cheat. I know I can do it but wish they would do away with it. Spoils the immersion.

I think the OP was referring to NPC stations. I've encountered issues where NPC stations will have a large number of NPC's walking around, only to land a while later and the place is completely deserted. It can make hiring NPC's very hit and miss at times. I notice this a lot because I capture a lot of NPC small ships and am in constant need of new pilots to man them. Oddly enough, one of the worst examples of missing NPC's seems to be on Equipment Docks and Teladi Trading Stations. :o

That would be so incredibly tedious.

If a rubber boat attacks a Battle ship and stays close enough so neither the turrets on the destroyer nor the torpedos will be able to take it out. That's very realistic and why they always have smaller classes, planes and helicopters to take it out before it gets close.
Save game editor XR and CAT/DAT Extractor
Keep in mind that it's still a work in progress although it's taking shape nicely.

If anyone is interested in a new save game editor for X4 and would like to contribute to the creation of one let me know. I do not have sufficient time to create it alone, but if there are enough people who want it and want to contribute we might be able to set something up.

Not true. In such a case any crewmember would take a riflw or even a personal pistol a shoot the boat.

About the K and I ships, I always tought the top was some super thick armour that would be pointless to shoot. Thus no need for shields and guns. But this game do not have that kind of mechanics.
