Who has played??

Post by Sureal »

I was looking at the new PC Gamer magazine and notices that they put I War 2 in their top 100. I though that this game looked quite good, so ilooked online for information and it look brilliant. I was wondering has anyone here played it ? just so I can get a second opinion.

I had fun with it.

Newtonian(how do you spell that?) flight took a little getting used to.

Some of the missions are some what obscure, imo. The walkthru's are the only way I got thru some of them.

It's an excellent game - it uses a semi-realistic flight model with the best of both worlds, IMO, much better than the XT one. It makes combat challenging and exciting. You get a great range of weaponry to wreak havoc with and the story-line is good. Plus it can be modded easily and there are patches that add extra functionality and/or make it easier.

Now its on budget its a bargain.

While I'll agree the flight engine is one of the best, the game itself is frankly annoying--you can't save in the middle of a mission, and I gave up on it after (on the sixth time through!) I finally completed a very complex three-part mission, only to get jumped and destroyed by a huge fleet on the way home. Too frustrating by half.

An amazing game with so many things you can do. There is a storyline but no set missions. It's fantastic.

I read earlier about the mods. Anyone know where I can get them.

Good game, it ate about three months of my life.

Mods available at http://www.i-war2.com/ while the frum can be found at http://ina-community.com/forums/forumdi ... orumid=137.

The mods are easy to make and I've managed to make two myself. Stupidly powerful intimatter harrower missiles and a mod that allows the Tachyon class patcom to carry five heavy weapon mounts. There are some really good ones out there though, like flying B5 ships around, this mod can be found at http://mods.firstones.com/buda5/iwar2/index.html

Have fun.

that would be the mission after the assault on the marauders home system dante isnt it???

i always lok forward to this mission some many sittin ducks to kill :P

i always tell my wingmen to guard the pegasus (hoffers ship) then i kill most corvettes (dont bother wiht fighters too much they are just annoying this late in the game.
then i use my twin cutting beams :P with weapons link  to cut the guns of the cruisers (keep moving/strafing or u will end up as spacedust) then i just finish them off and i then go after the carrier then its just cleaning up the fighters.

the key is to kill the corvettes (and the four gunned maas fighters) since they will attack the pegasus and if that one dies u lose, ur allied ships will distract the capitol ships so u can attack them with RELATIVE ease since they will shoot at you if u get too close, so be sure to have ALL upgrades and theses weapons:

3x heavy PBC (for corvettes etc)
2x cutting beam with weapon link (fer capitols of course)
missles:

disruptors: are nice to shoot en masse at an capitol so that u can finish it off wiht the beams

lsdi missles: useless in this mission

deadshot msl (dunno if its alrdy available here); nice vs corvettes in twin fire mode (weapon link)

hope this helps all you IWAR 2 players :P

No set missions? Were you playing the same game I was? The entire storyline consisted of set missions!

I thought the game was fantastic also.

Have to agree the fact that you cant save in between missions was what made me give up on it.

There i was on a cargo run (cargo run = me robbing the whole system) and made myself a nice fortune right up until i jumpeed into the wrong system on my way back to base and was literarly destroyed instantly.

within 5 seconds of this the game was uninstalled and thrown 10 feet across the room killing my plant by decapitation.

Havent played it since.

I-war 2 was great, but needed work.

Thankfully, they released the code to modders, and work was done in a big way. e.g, Station save mods, trading mods, waypoint mods, mod mods.... the list is long my friends, and transforms I-War2 from a good game, to a bloody brilliant game!

www.i-war2.com

for all your I war mod needs.

One of the modders may sound familiar to some of you, remember our old friend Gus Man B? :)
