My dad went to computer world and found it in one of thoes bargin buckets, He only bought it because he knows I like space stuff. Its lucky he went or I would never have known about this place.
Come watch me on Twitch where I occasionally play several of the X games
Well, I found X-BTF in a bundle pack bargin bin at Blockbuster, while looking for another game. I bought the thing not even knowing what the hell the X game thing was. Well, I know now
Strangly the game that was in the pack that I had intended to buy (Oni or something) Didn't even work
A friend of mine had XBTF, and told me about it.
I went to his place and had a look. I pushed him out of the way, and took over. I was hooked, just like Elite of old.
So a trip to EB, and I was now a proud owner.
About 7-8 months later I heard about X-T, so began a year long quest to obtain it. Finally tracked it down, as X gold in PC World.
The original XBTF stayed in my possetion for nanoseconds, as hungry friends decended upon me
I purchased X-Beyond the Frontier on the release date in Virgin Megastore, Newcastle (upon-Tyne). I had initially ordered it in HMV, but they had supply problems that particlar week so my business went to Mr. Branson.
Saw a mate playing X-BTF and thought it was interesting....Upon a visit some time later in the year I saw X-Gold and bought it realising there were two versions of the game. It actually sat on top of my computer for about 6 months before I got the time to play it......and ever since I've hooked..well up until the perseus mission last week and I've gone off it cause it's a pain in the arse mission that I will get around to do eventually just can't be botheed at the moment...
DUFFMAN CAN NEVER DIE! ONLY THE ACTORS WHO PLAY HIM!
I loved Elite but could never really find a game as good for the PC, then found XBTF while looking for something different to play.....in a seconds bucket for £6 got hooked and have now just bought XT after some hunting for £2.99
Bargains for both and well worth the money paid for them! Of all the games I have these are the ones I go back to time and time again.
Purchased XBTF shortly after release date in Electronic Boutique, in Bath. Attempted to get XT the same way, but after many fruitless searches, bought directly from Egosoft, by which time had played XBTF till the keyboard wore out (had to get a new keyboard for XT ).
EB in Victoria station, and saw the big X on the box... I took a look at the Forum at the time (Arrodite) but didn't seem like my thing so I continued playing alone... then two months later I saw X gold.... and there I went! OOOH another one!
Handy that!
I then found the 2.1 patch, after hours of unsuccessful capturing I finally decided to check out the forum again... I took on the vestiges of the silent one and the rest is history...

Then I stole it off her and I'm not giving it back until X2 comes out!
Saw it (X-BTF that is) shortly after release at full price (think it was £24.99) in PC World - just happened by it when I was back in the UK for a couple of weeks.
I (like everyone else) was hooked after that, and upon my return to the UK I ordered X-Tension direct from Egosoft.

Strung out on Britain's high, hitting an all time low
I never heard of X before, I looked at Dave Braben's Frontier web site to get some info of ELITE 4, there I have seen his disclaimer of X-Beyond the Frontier. Which said, he had absolutely nothing to do with XBtF. After entering XBtF into Google I came to EGOSOFTs web site where I got more info about this game. As I was still playing FFE and ELITE 2 off and on at that time, I wanted to try XBtF too and found the game by luck at a small games store in Adelaide. All big stores did not stock it, I can not understand why, unless it was a distributor's stuff up.
I bought a computergames magazine in the hospital to kill the waiting time when my wife was in for giving birth to our daughter
The magazine had a preview and a demo-cd about X-Btf which I read and tried-out couple days later (Uhm getting a kid can set your world up side down for a couple days......weeks........years ).
The preview and demo struck me with excitement....is it true ?...naah...is it....yes.....can't be......would be awesone....a brand new slick looking elite kinda game. I bought it as soon I could get my hands on it in a games-shop and was very pleasantly surprised. Later I read about x-tension on the internet and ordered a copy from egosoft.
Today I'm still playing this awesome game....untill X2 arrives
I got XBTF from a local computer show (January 2000 I think). I was also hooked from day one. Having been brought up on Star Raiders on an Atari 800(anyone remember that one), Elite (Atari ST & PC), Frontier II and FFE, it was a natural progression. I bought Xgold (English version) off the Egosoft website about a year later. I glad I bought Xgold and not the Xtension upgrade at the time, as my eldest daughter aged 11 has just started playing XBTF (a new recruit). But I have managed to buy her an Xtension upgrade disk from a local PC World store. That allows me to still play XT (and XBTF). She's not having my Xgold, that's mine, mine, mine!
My wife moans that I spend too long on the game. She doesn't like the noise, etc. Trouble is now she gets XTension in one room and XBTF in another!
I bought XBTF when it first came out. XT i found on a single disk in a Virgin Megastores bargain bucket a year later. Then i bought X-Gold 6 months later after the first two went AWOL.
