Finally, I have XT but....

Post by Aeternum »

can anyone help me out with quick cash making schemes? As with XBTF I am facing the boring task of making some cash to really get started.

Thanks in advance :)

No, dont agree with cheating....but there is always the good profit making ideas! Will try finding some pirates but is this a good idea with the limited firepower you start with?

Just dosnt seem to be much in the system you start of in.

Which start are you using, and which version of X-T?

Well wasnt sure about the different starts that are available so have just started a standard new game. Also I don't know what version of XT I have...to be honest I was just glad to find an original copy after a couple of weeks of hunting. Unfortunately I'm at work (lol) so cannot find out which version I have. Does it make that much difference?

Oh yeah, it makes a difference.
Download the latest patch. 2.1a I believe.

If yours is straight from the box, it's probably 1.4.

Lot's changes in 2.1

Starting out in X-Tension

Post by Lazza »

Start using save where you have the Argon Discoverer and the freighter. Go to The Wall and trade energy cells between the Solar Power Plants and the factories in that system. Upgrade your ships as you make money, expand cargo space, etc. Get a docking computer as soon as you can it saves a LOT of time. When you get offered passenger runs, etc, use the Discoverer, it`s one of the fastest ships in the game.

Once you have enough money, buy a better fighter with decent shields and weapons, and you can start to capture ships. The pirate freighters are fairly easy as are the Pirate Orinocos, I never bother with the Mandalays and Bayamons as they tend to fight back!

personally I started with the Argon Buster, and just went straight after the pirates.

Made a lot of money very quickly doing that, and pretty soon, I was flying a maxed out Elite. Then a Falcon joined my fleet, then an Orca.

After that empire building. Mostly in Argon, and Paranid space, to get that mission.

This can be interesting  .....but if you at least upgrade your speed so that you're that little bit faster than a Bayamon or Mandalay, and save your game before you start to try and capture, it can be fun....if not a little short lived :D
It CAN be done with a basic Disco, but it's best to pick on a lone Orinoco, Bayamon or Mandalay if possible.
It also depends on what is the max firepower you can afford at the time, and how much patience you have. :D

Hell....don't mind me, i'm just a masochist!

Great, thanks to all who replied. I did notice that no one said stick around and trade ! All death and destruction ! Which is even better....looks like I have a few options under my belt now so just a case of having fun.

XBTF was good and am looking forward to playing XT, but kinda have a deadline to meet with X2 coming out very shortly (hopefully!) which looks fantastic. Can't wait to get online with it. :D

Well, if you want a trading option, sell the starting Buster for a Lifter (how to do this is probably mentioned in half-a-dozen FAQs) and go e-cell shopping in The Wall (E of the starting sector). There are so many solar power plants in The Wall that the buying price is always low, so you should be able to make a good 7-8 thousand credits profit with every shipment.

my personal early game money maker is to sell the buster, buy a discoverer and a lifter,
sit in the dico, with remote trading and send the lifter about doing the hard work. (lurking a lot in systems like Argon Prime (any with a Cap ship and regular flow of pirates).
let the M1 or M2 blow hell outa the pirates as they enter the system and quickly scoop up the dropped cargo, it can be anything from Hornet missiles to spacebooze either way decide yourself on wether to carry the contraband away but it's infinate % profit, you didnt pay for it so its all good (you'd be surprised how quickly you can make money this way picking through the buring remains of whoever.
