Disable order queue?
In a future version, would it be possible to add a toggle to turn off order queuing for a ship? In a large battle its annoying to have to cancel a ship's attack order in order to tell it to attack something else. An Example would be fighting a HOP fleet, I need to tell some of my destroyers to change targets as they are getting broadsided by a few odys that have come in from the flank. I want to just tell the destroyers to kill the target and for them to immediately switch and kill said target, rather then having to tell them to stop attacking the previous target first.

Re: Disable order queue?
I don't think that your concern is connected to the order queue. Ships in the X-games have always (don't know about pre-X2-times) stuck to their current order before following new orders whether these new orders have been given by the player or by scripts.
In X4 it is possible to kill the current order, in the order queue or - with your mouse - on the map. This is extremely helpful and imo a big step forward.
On the other hand we all know that Fleet Management needs improving. But while we're waiting for it, we can use a workaround: organizing a fleet before we attack. I suggest using the naming functions: I have a group of 10 ships called "Plasma Nemesis Raider", I have ships called "Bomber xxx" and so on. When using the map and switching to the first option on your left you will see a list of those of your ships being ready in the attacking-sector. With a Click and using Shift you can easily 'activate' one of those groups and give an appropriate order to that group, the Plasmas attacking Destroyers and/or Carriers (one by one!) - you get it. Fighters are best told to attack a fighter with activated option of "attacking all" (order queue, "attack", open "+"-option).
In my experience this is actually the most efficient method.

Re: Disable order queue?
What I think should happen is that certain types of orders, such as combat related orders, automatically clear the existing order queue. Telling a ship to attack a target should remove all of the other pre-existing movement orders.
Maybe if you want to preserve the order queue, you could do something like hold down shift while giving the order, and in that case your order will preserve the order queue and add the new order to the end of the queue.
In the middle of combat, having to constantly remove orders before giving a new order is tedious, and oftentimes I forget to do so.
Effective fleet control for combat operations is an area that really needs work by Egosoft. Ships need to be more responsive to player commands, and there needs to be more user friendly, effective, intuitive ways to control large scale combat.

Re: Disable order queue?
I agree but I would probably turn it around to
- "hold shift to overwrite the queue" (opt-out queue, instead of opt-in)
- "Ctrl+Shift to order command as the first in the queue"

Code: Select all

Good idea. The ability to overwrite the queue (at times) would be very nice.Tamina wrote: ↑Wed, 3. Jul 19, 16:11I agree but I would probably turn it around tobecause you don't want to risk to clear the queue accidentially. And while we are at it a
