Wouldn't it be cool if...
Hey all,
So, I like riding on my ships and letting the AI do all the hard work. Sure, they're not always great at the job, but I like playing that way. It dates back to X2 and the Argon Nova with its rear turret, I loved jumping into said turret while the AI flew. Fun.
When flying any multi-crew ship - ideally one with extra seats - I've LOVE to be able to climb into one of those seats and take control of turret groups and deployables. So, I'd be easily able to deploy mines and even pilot Drones remotely while the AI flew the ship.
This would add another layer to the game for me. The AI Captain can handle the basic piloting, while I shoot stuff - either in Turrets or controlling Drones. Taking it further - if Wings start working better - imagine controlling a small Wing of Drones, all moving and firing as one? Bloody cool that.
While I quite like flying and fighting manually, helping out my Crew in this way really appeals to me. I find it a shame that we can only manually fire a ships fixed weapons, and only if we're directly piloting it. A wasted opportunity I feel.
What do people think? Prior X Games let us jump into an control Turrets manually, so I find it's a bit of a regression for X4 not to have this. I know Rebirth was the last game, and the basis for X4, but I just have so many more hours in X3AP alone that it's that game I compare to.

just to sit at the chair automatically opening the map would be cool but controlling turrets would be

Fixed ships getting spawned away from ship configuration menu at resupply ships from automatically getting deployables.

A few others have had similar thoughts such as the examples here, here and here. There are others. I mention this just for background.

Yes, I do recall other discussions on this, but thought it worth mentioning again - wouldn't want to necro a six month old post after allAlan Phipps wrote: ↑Sat, 29. Yup, I've suggested the same thing in the past. I hope it would get implemented someday.Scoob wrote: ↑Sat, 29. Jun 19, 16:34 Hey all,

I give an enthusiastic endorsement to this thread.
But I am optimistic that one day we will have direct turret and drone control; after all X:R had remote control drones so a lot of the plumbing is probably already there in the game engine.
I want to re-enforce this bit in particular: If the hard thing is too hard, doing the easy thing might still be awesome.

Never used combat drones but the hacking one was funstrask412 wrote: ↑Sat, 29. Jun 19, 17:05 I give an enthusiastic endorsement to this thread.I want to re-enforce this bit in particular: If the hard thing is too hard, doing the easy thing might still be awesome.

Combat Drones in X4 are...well, really not very good, hence why being able to control them directly might be fun. My ships launch their Drones, which then proceed to follow said ships around, doing nothing, for an eternity before either docking or just getting lost - or both! I have 4 unavailable Drones on one of my ships that docked hours ago, dunno what's going on there.
While this thread is more about having the ability to take direct control over certain currently AI-only features, having better behaving Drones is a must to of course.

Combat drones fly much slower than most ships.Scoob wrote: ↑Sat, 29. Jun 19, 18:29 Combat Drones in X4 are...well, really not very good, hence why being able to control them directly might be fun. True by default, but not if you upgrade the engines. Likewise you can upgrade the shields, weapon, etc. Fun to trick them out as small expendable scouts early game (and slightly cheaper I think than an actual scout ship) but I think the whole process is kind of a bug, rather than intended game play. Or it is intended game play, but the bug is that if you dock the drone back onto any ship or station it will lose the upgrades you installed and go back to being a standard drone.

Pfft. just allow us to sit in the office like a manager (your own station) and control everything remotely
Though they really really need to improve Squad/Drone control. Especially Drone control - follow, attack, land, take off, protect (similar to follow), etc. Makes having carrieres a whole lot more sense.
