Xenon War Missions query

Hey all,

So, in my relatively new game, I decided to sign up for the Argon vs. Xenon War effort. Though I'd be able to snag some minor combat missions and other fairly low-level things. I recall from a prior game being presented with a variety of missions so I could pick and choose what I wanted to do. However, this time that hasn't happened.

Basically, for my very first mission - after the "qualifying" kill the Xenon M of course - I've been given a HUGE task. Basically, for my first proper mission, the Argon want me to build a Military Base and assemble a fleet! This seems like it might be fun, albeit when I'm a little more advanced in the game.

So, is this normal now or just RNG? What happened to the various choices of missions to take?
