Making your game more efficient

Post by zarrazee »

Dear all
After 200 hours, I'm starting to get my head around this game. I'm looking to be more efficient and am tweaking my own SOP for empire building.

1) How many autominers do you build? (e.g. I build 1 miner per 10000 nividium/silicon/methane that's in demand per sector.)
2) I dont bother with ice miners, should I?
3) Suggested thruster/engine/shields for traders and miners (Combat or Travel engines, mk1 or 2 etc)
4) How many L ships do you buy? Do you replace your M miners with L?
5) What tips do you have to reduce micromanagement? (e.g. Until we can easily swap 2 and 3 star pilots, I wont "waste" a 3 star pilot on sector mining or manual trading)

I'm looking forward to your thoughts

Cheers

None (well, OK, one, but I didn't build it). For the cost of 10 miners I'd rather build/extend a station.
2) I dont bother with ice miners, should I?
If you're using autominers at all, then I don't see why not mine ice. Money's money.
3) Suggested thruster/engine/shields for traders and miners (Combat or Travel engines, mk1 or 2 etc)
Top-tier TEL shields, Mk3 Travel drives (either ARG or PAR, whichever has max travel speed for given ship), All-Round thrusters Mk3 (I don't think AI understands the values, hence going for average).
4) How many L ships do you buy? Do you replace your M miners with L?
Depends. If resources are in same sector, L could be a thing. If not, it's just too slow. Or feels like that, anyway.
5) What tips do you have to reduce micromanagement? (e.g. Until we can easily swap 2 and 3 star pilots, I wont "waste" a 3 star pilot on sector mining or manual trading)
Don't do it until we have the means. It's a dangerous habit to get into, but it's not like we have much choice.

Ice mining defiantly, feed your water plant with your ice mines, then close of ice trading to other races.
My water factories are pouring out cash so to speak.
I use 3 ships to get the plant up to speed, then can drop one off later, else it tends to go walkabout, as the station is full of ice.

The most efficient way to start I have found is to immediately grab a few data vaults, use that money to upgrade out of your starter ship at the ALI shipyard in trinity sanctum. After this go claim the abandoned ody in faulty logic, sell it for 8mil, then buy some miners to start mining nividium. You can have this done within your first hour of gameplay.

Enough that demands are not being massively decreased. Nividium has no demand outside of initial empty storages and so should only be mined early game.

Yes you should bother with Ice since it is an extra source of money. Less than other solids but still.
zarrazee wrote: Sun, 2. Jun 19, 21:11 3) Suggested thruster/engine/shields for traders and miners (Combat or Travel engines, mk1 or 2 etc)
Skeleton ship initially. Basic shield, travel mk1, standard thruster mk1, minimum software. When one gets a Warf operational one can refit all the miners to high end (best engine, thrusters, shields, software, etc) since it becomes dirt cheap to do so.

L miners are useful for large processing factories located in the same sector as the materials they need. As soon as gates are involved their efficiency drops a lot and M miners are likely a better choice. L miners can be prone to losing their mining drones if a player flies near them.

Use crew list every 2 or so game hours to look for any captains who have reached 3 stars. Name your mining ships appropriately so you can spot when a sector miner can now become an advanced miner.

Heh, that's a bit better. If only to remind ourselves how frustratingly tedious it is :)
