1) Use supply ship hull as baseline, remove supply/repair feature and most of docks.
2) Strap the big cargo containers to the hull - BAM! low effort XL mega freighter!
3) Strap different cargo containers, add mining turrets - BAM! low effor XL mega miner.
Both types of ships would be very apprecaited for service of my mega-plexes as well as secondary freight units for supply ships and carriers.

I am using my new large resupply ships as trading ships. They are big, slow, look cool and I have no fighters to up keep anyway. Don't do all that fighting stuff, waist of time. So these re supply ships are destined to be freighters in my game. Ha Ha.
What we need next are some large salvage ships, to scavenge the spoils from others who kill each other. In X3 I quite enjoyed skirting a battle and scavenging the dropped cargo, missiles, etc.

By XL I don't mean just a physical size, but also storage space.
