Is the GOG version as updated as the steam one?
Super tempted to finally jump into X4 and GOG is my preferred platform.

Updates are released on Steam and GOG at the same time, so yes, they are both on the same version.

Be warned though, if using beta I had to re-install the game few times as it can get corrupted in GOG. Steam is fine though.
Also, Mods is a big part of the game, Steam provides much better support in this regards.

It was released almost at the same time if not the same time. I never bothered with the beta, just waited for the release.
1. Please do more on NPC civilian/uniform variety, and bio customisations, Devs.
2. Stations need sirens/warnings when enemy is close in numbers or Station in danger of destruction (in Sandbox).
Yes, for immersion. Thankyou ahead of time. (Edit: This is actually happening!!!)

Re: Is the GOG version as updated as the steam one?
I'm on the GoG version and I like the whole GoG platform. In my experience - just with X4 - GoG updates are actually available a little later than Steam. Might be and hour, might be two or three - that's been the pattern for me so far. Also, I'm often seeing the Steam update to the same version be MUCH smaller than the GoG one. There have been several cases now where a Steam update is a few tens of mega bytes and the GoG version is over a gigabyte. The very latest update, 2.5 Beta 6 to 2.5 release was tiny though, just 7.5 mb.
Other than these quirks, I'm very pleased with the GoG platform. It's far from being a pain, but not having to have the Steam client running is nice for some reason.

If you install/update through Galaxy updates are released simultaneously across platforms, so yes.
The archival offline installers can lag behind a bit (and don't have the beta versions for obvious reasons) but them existing in the first place is certainly more than Steam can say for itself.

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback. I'll probably treat myself to the game then.

It's not just the archive versions that lags behind, though it does, it's the normal updates. I've often had to wait a couple of hours before the GoG Galaxy Client starts the update, yet Steam users have been playing already. I just assumed GoG were slower rolling out the updates, which is fine, but something to be aware of. I was new to GoG with X4, so I didn't know why I wasn't being updated at first but other users informed me of this quirk of GoG.adeine wrote: ↑Fri, 31. I do still like the GoG Platform, the delay in getting updates is just a minor downside, though the sometimes MUCH larger updates might be an issue if you have limited bandwidth or have to pay per MB.
