accidentally attacking allies

Post by d3athdrumm3r »

Hello all! I have a question but first - THANK YOU DEVS! X4 has been a real treat. With over 300 hours in X3TC and 200 in X3AP and now nearly 300 in X4 - I can say I've throughly enjoyed them all.

I know this has been asked before, but I'm hoping there is a fix in the works I'm not seeing in any patch notes.
Is there a fix for, or more likely does anyone know how to deal with accidentally attacking an ally? I've seen the suggestion for devs to make a "whoops" button so we can apologize. I've been reloading games over and over so I don't lose half my ships to my best Argon friends but that gets old.

Typically this comes when a few ships are protecting one of my stations and mass traffic turns red on an NPC station. Although it can happen anytime when dealing with space scum of all sorts!

Does anyone know of a good way to prevent this issue?
Is there a fix on the way from our X Universe Dev gods?

Thanks again all!

If the ship you hit turns red, you can escape and after some time, they turn back blue.

An issue that might require fixing however is - I hit a drone (it flew through my volley of bullets sent into a K which already took down some modules the drone was supposed to protect) and it turned red, but not enough to retaliate. Since the other drones also turned red but in a non-aggressive manner, I was about to hit save and move on when... my nearby fleet came in and started shooting these drones ;(

So yeah, a button "sorry" might be one option, but I think the whole mechanics need rethinking.

My solution for this is to let the NPCs protect their sectors and let my fleet protect my own.
Argon prime usually have a massive fleet patrolling around that will take care of most hostiles. And pirates, despite being pirates, are usually very little of a threat to trader ships anyway, as they fail to catch up with them most of the time.
If ever my allies are in trouble from with a massive invasion, only then would I bother bringing my fleet around. But so far the most agressive push I've seen is the Xenons reaching the HAT trade station before being stopped. Other large scale engagements were confined near the gates.

Funny thing, though. If you have ships policing your own sectors, they will do so entirely.
This means, in my previous game, I had issues in Nopileo's fortune II, where I had most of my empire. HOP traders would come in to trade with my stations, yet a few ARG and TEL flying around would come and attack them. HOP traders would then call for help, and my own patrol forces would engage the ARG/TEL fighters, despite me being over +25 rep with both. This resulted in minor and somewhat funny rep loss.
Of course, not having a full Arg fleet or station nearby to engage and start the retaliation spiral helps.
That was all in my former game before 2.00. I haven't seen that yet in my new game, but I just recently started owning sectors.

I'm curious to see they have planned for 3.0 regarding sector management options. They mentioned they had plans, but not what they consisted of exactly.
Well... first things first, I guess. Quite eager to try 2.50...
Humans are deuterostomes, which means that when they develop in the womb the first opening they develop is the anus.
This means that at one point you were nothing but an asshole.

Some people never develop beyond this stage.
