Seems like they've given up, it's a joke

Post by nemhook »

There's no wars going on, everybody is mass building with queues in every shipyard and wharf, the sectors are full of ships.

I can't build as it takes hours, sometimes not at all, if i put in an order for a ship, if another order comes in that requires less resources, it will just build that one instead, instead of saving up to build mine since i placed an order first.

there's like 2 engine part plants and 4 hull stations that slow produce so there's constantly a backlog of ships waiting to be built.

My miner is just going around sight seeing and i can only build one, due to the mass production queues.

i literally can not get anything done due to the major lack of resources, i could build a station or 2 for hull and engines, but i can't build any damn traders as the npc ones are too busy farming what little there is for the wharf and shipyards so there's little resources to build a station.

Egosoft should definitely reconsider building any more X games if they can't make them work.

Before you claim ES can't make the game work, consider that it works pretty well for most users on this forum.

And now let's tackle the issues at hand.

1- How much of the universe have you explored? There should be plenty of stations that produce every wares, especially hull and engine parts. Yes, they are in high demand and should be somewhat of a bottleneck in certain places, but you should always be able to find some station willing to sell cheap, allowing you to supply a shipyard with a hefty profit margin.

2- Some trade stations will usually have some reserves of the wares mentioned above. They act as buffer to prevent total shortages of essential wares. Most of the time you make much money out of the trade, but it's a good way to supply a shipyard in high need.

3- From what I gather you are rather early game. You mention you have 1 miner. Am I correct in assuming you have no traders either, and thus can't really supply shipyards? If so here's two tips (out of many). The first for generating profit, the second for a spot where you will be able to buy traders.

Nividium is a very profitable ware early game. You will get 300-500K per load of M trader. However, only trade stations buy them, and there's no sink of this resource in the whole game. So when once these stations are full, you'll need to find another source of income. You're still good for a few hours of this, though, and it's usually way enough to kickstart your finances.

Find the ALI wharf in Trinity Sanctum VII. They sell a limited selection of ships from every races, namely every types of M traders. NPC buy almost nothing from them, so they should always have enough resources to build your ships.
If you have questions, feel free to ask. We're many here wiling to help.
Good luck!

There are wars going on, it may not be readily apparent to you however where the fighting is taking place.

Regarding not enough resources to build, it stinks IMO that Eogsoft have gone away with the first come first serve queue system, and instead have a system now where low cost ships get moved ahead in queue if there is a shortage. But since that is the system they have for now, there are ways to deal with it. The most reliable way to get your ship built, is order a low preset ship (no weapons, no shields, just enough engines for it to meet minimum requirements). Then, upgrade that ship at an equipment dock, they tend to not have the same issue with shortages as shipyards. Or, find the ALI shipyard in Trinity Sanctum VII (sector to the sector Trinity Sanctum III, along the highway), and that shipyard will be full of resources from which you can buy ships, as other factions don't order from them. You can cancel your first order that is taking forever and try these other options if it is taking too long.

As far as not enough hull and engine parts, there are more than what you are seeing, explore more in the universe. However, in a complex dynamic economy where the AI is trying to order ships as fast as possible, there will always be shortages. If you address the hull and engine part shortage, then you will soon find that some other component becomes rate limiting. It is almost impossible to get all shipbuilding wares in complete equilibrium. Shortages are just part of the game.

You should definitely consider figuring out how the game works before declaring that Egosoft can't make their games work.

You mean border skirmishes, i haven't seen a proper war depicted in a video game since Operation Flashpoint, and don't even get me started on the anemic Argon/Terran effort in AP, the main issue is no side can be allowed to gain any ground or else the game would be disbalanced, so instead they usually tend to go around destroy a few things that will be replaced in minutes and retreat (this is discounting strategy games where main point is for the player to drive the war to it's conclusion of course). I don't even get excited when a game lore has a war in the background, NPCs won't do sh*t.

It can take a while for the economy to start ticking.
There are options other than buying another ship 0.0005 milliseconds after the game has started.

Do some missions
If you're not confident in your combat skills, don't take combat missions

"Find Resource" missions are probably the easiest. They stack so you can complete multiple missions for the same sector with just 1 resource probe.
Which you can de-activate and scoop back into storage for the next set of missions.

Do some "build xyz station" missions, wait for the offers that give 10m or higher as payment
Find resource missions will fund the 'blueprint' costs you need for these, typically Engine Part, Hull Part or a Graphine/Anti-Matter Cell combo.
For build a defence station missions you'll only need the following blueprints:
- Bridge Module
- Disc Module
- M Pulse Turret
- L Pulse Turret
- Mk1 M shield
- Mk1 L Shield
- M Dumbfire Turret

As for the war, yes it's going off
But as a neutral party you dont get to see it much, unless you elect to join in when you have relations of 10+ with someone
When other factions start building defence platforms in another factions sector it's labelled as "Contested" on the map right at the top
If you want to keep your Teladi options open .. keep an eye on Ianamus Zura, they sometimes lose that trading station to the Xenon ... and thats where the faction representative lives.

I've scouted and explored the maps. and unlocked every Wharf and shipyard, yes there maybe a few more stations that are in far distant sectors, but the resources to buy are rare maybe 300/400 per station.

i've already tried the minimum build, this only works for small ship, larger ships that require more are still put on the back of the list if a request for a lower spec ship is requested.

I do have 4 trading ships and struggling to make more

There are no real wars going on, a few skirmishers, nothing that warrants the types of building of ships they are producing, especially when they are not near a xenon or Khaak zone, there are clusters of fighters everywhere doing nothing and the amount of Odysseus ships in the holy sector is crazy.

before 1.30 there was resources but with each patch they have gotten less and less, i'm not new to X games, i've played them all, and i took a break for 4 months due to the bugs, deleted my saves as the consensus was a fresh play would be beneficial to fix some station issues, this new save i've spent about 50 or so hours, i don't expect to have ruled the universe by now, but i do expect some major progress for the time I've put in it.

i'm not new to the game, i didn't just install in yesterday and then expect to have a fleet of unstoppable ships and station, i've played it since release then stopped and reinstalled after a few months break with fresh patches, but with each new patch it seems to get worse and worse when it comes to resources, i'v been slowly progressing and i'd be fine if it wasn't for the abomination of a queuing system for ships. if a ship takes less resources than mine even if i select minimum build, then it will be given the resources instead, doesn't matter how long it has been waiting, a fresh request will take priority, it should not be like that, it should be first come first served.

Seems like a perfectly legit complaint to me and I'm no noob by a long shot. Why you gotta get personal and insult someone who's got a legitimate issue and is looking for help?
Kids..

Any decent factory model should have a queue system. A great factory model should also consider that the purchase of one capital ship should not totally stifle all other production. So while I think it's admirable the current model doesn't enforce a strict queue, it should also not be exclusively routing all new build components exclusively to the ships that can be immediately built. At the very least, it should divvy them up so that all ships, not matter how large they are, make steady progress even while the smaller ships are being produced. Yes, a tiny bit of programming would be required

a little workaround is build the ships with minimun presets then upgrade them in equipment docks, with this I had no problem building any ship so far
Fixed ships getting spawned away from ship configuration menu at resupply ships from automatically getting deployables.

I don`t think they`ve given up yet. There`s a large 2.50 Patch on the way...
1. Please do more on NPC civilian/uniform variety, and bio customisations, Devs.
2. Stations need sirens/warnings when enemy is close in numbers or Station in danger of destruction (in Sandbox).
Yes, for immersion. Thankyou ahead of time. (Edit: This is actually happening!!!)

Most of the team will be working in the upcoming DLC's.

Now now, let's not go too far, X3 had very positive aspects but it also had plenty of issues, and i know, i have to have sunk at least 1000 hours into it. Economy was broken, complexes would lag out the game insanely, some of the missions were poorly balanced, Autopilot would routinely smack into stuff and the voice acting was pretty abysmal, it was a great game but calling it the best space simulator is pure hyperbole.

Wait if you played all the other x games why are suprised that this game is a slow grind. Also your title is absolutely absurd go look at devnet right now. I'll link it to you viewforum.php?f=159 does that look like them giving up. Also mutiple people provided great suggestions about how you can maximize your experience. I highly suggest you take them. Lastly border major campaigns are in the beginning as you get to mid game it border then it builds up to late game battles. I've seen the xenon take over certain sectors in people's game. So it really depending on how the factions. On to my last point you realize that each faction builds ships to attack each other or raid xenon sector just because you don't see it doesn't mean that their sectors aren't being raided or stations attacked.

We have another post of a player who experienced the exact opposite, the wars and Xenon ravaged his gameplay. This is SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN in some games, the bell curve of likelihoods in a well-designed open universe will almost mandate it. This is how a proper free-form game happens. If you don't like how your universe ended up, restart your game to reseed your probabilities. I, for one, prefer the game this way, instead of Egosoft restricting every hazard/undesirable outcome that could happen. It is an opportunity to try and work around that outcome. Maybe you could join a faction in your game and try to stir up the tension getting some more aggressive missions?

Actually Litcube did also "fix" a lot in the economy, although it technically still is "broken" (I'd say he cured some of the symptoms, but not the illness), as he managed to do that only bypassing the whole AI trading system, basically "cheating": he rebalanced it and the disponibility of certain wares so as to offer better QoL to the players in this very same department, availability of necessary "shipbuilding wares" (that, in X3, were mostly weapons, but the resulting issue was pretty much the same). Arguably a must for a mod tailored to allow you - and require from you - to build much bigger fleets than what vanilla ever really allowed or was balanced for: remember how virtually impossible it was to kit more than 1 or 2 cap ships because of scarcity of highly priced cap ship weapons? Unless you were to build your own weaponry megacomplexes, of course: which was technically broken as well and Litcube's "fixes" (or, well, works around) that too with its Saturn Complexes.

Anyway the whole argument is pretty moot, Litcube's Universe is a mod: I myself agree that X3 with Litcube's is probably the best game in this genre ever (even with all its core shortcomings), but that's not X3 "proper" anymore.

It's kinda like when someone complains about the biome they spawned on in Minecraft. It has that same seed element in x4 battles can start late or early game some shipyards have more problems then others and so on.

I don't disagree I think x games have ability to have decent base games that are propelled by modders and the community.
