Hi
I want to move over to Linux as my main OS. I've installed the latest Linux Drivers for my Nvidia Card, and I have managed to play the game.
However - when going into the game I find that the mouse cursor is not visible. I'm using Fedora Linux 29 and a GTX 1060 video card with 6GB Ram. I'm guessing that this has something to do with the X11 configuration in Linux and would welcome any pointers. I'm aware of the suggested controller work arounds, but would rather find a genuine solution.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Fedora Linux Missing Cursor
What is the "latest" driver? NVIDIA drivers have weird numbering. I would suggest using 415 or 418, 430 might give you problems concerning Vulkan. And certainly anything 410 or lesser is not appropriate.
What is your desktop environment? Gnome? Have you tried to launch the game from a different desktop environment to see if it still happens? I would try at least from XFCE and LXDE, the former is good for comparison and the latter is barebones hence good for running "naked". You just have to install them from dnf, log out and log in through them, then call steam and re-launch the game.

Re: Fedora Linux Missing Cursor
Just to be sure:
When you launch the game, or when you are in-game but on a menu, or with mouse steering turned off, the cursor should be like this:

When you are piloting a ship and mouse steering is on, or when you are in first person on foot, it should be like this:

When you are first person on foot and you are about to interact with some NPC, it should be like this:

Do you see any of these cursors? The first one is a hardware cursor, so it might be that if it is the only that fails to appear, this might indeed be a driver issue.
Also, it is of note that we still don't know how linux support is going to be, but its previous title (X: Rebirth) which used the same engine only officially supported SteamOS and Ubuntu 14.04 (although it runs beautifully in later versions of Ubuntu). So, if Egosoft is unable to support you due to your distribution, please don't blame it on them. Lots of developers say they don't support Linux because there are too many different "flavors"...

Hi Am using the 418 Drivers in Gnome.
I'll try a different desktop environment and see what happens.
Thanks for your thoughts.

You're welcome. Also, it might be not linux-related... Like this dude which had the same problem on X: Rebirth and solved it by verifying the game files through the steam client.

Re: Fedora Linux Missing Cursor
Hi
Changing the desktop environment doesn't help however what I have discovered is that it seems to be related to using the Xbox one controller and then going back to using the mouse for input..
The mouse does not focus back on the game window. If I use the mouse from the outset and don't use the controller at all then the cursor behaves as expected. In the Windows version I get the normal behaviour where cursor focuses back on the game.

That's curious. I also had a problem related with joystick input, with a different nature but a very similar solution. And btw,Ravenstar wrote: ↑Sun, 12. May 19, 05:35Hi

Also, in settings -> controls you have the option to "confine mouse to window", maybe this helps to play the game even with the controller plugged in?

Re: Fedora Linux Missing Cursor
The game is still playable with the XBox One controller as the right stick emulates the mouse. So when you use the right stick the cursor becomes visible however move the mouse and it vanishes again. You can see the default Linux cursor flickering occasionally and if you are fortunate enough to have the mouse in the right location you can left or right click. However when using mouselook when walking around the stations, it's clear that not every mouse input is making it to the game executable as the mouselook becomes jerky.
I would reiterate that these problems ONLY appear to occur once you've used a control method other than the mouse. If you start with the mouse and use it throughout then there is not an issue, but as soon as the mouse is switched out then it appears to have difficulty regaining focus on the game screen the next time you use it.
I did already have confine mouse to window enabled. As I was running the game in fullscreen it shouldn't have made a difference anyway.
Incidentally I may be wrong but AFAICT the desktop environment sits on top of the main X Wndows system, so in reality I didn't really expect changing the environment to have much impact. But I can confirm that in addition to Gnome I did try:
Xfce
Kde
