New game after 3.0

Post by Faust_2012 »

Will it be necessary to start a new game after patch 3.0? In some forums i've met the information that it's desirable to start a new game because of the new features. so i don't know if i can play now or need to wait 3.0 release, that my progress woulnd't be wasted. Thanks

No, you don't. I'm still playing on a save that has lasted since 1.0.

The only source I have from Egosoft regarding that is:

I have yet to see a source from people claiming a restart is required with 3.0. It seems this Information is passed from person to person.

Sarcasm doesn't work over the internet. So no, every savegame is upwards compatible, no restart required.

Total BS! I'm playing my 1.0 save with no problem and Egosoft made clear that their patches will not require starting new game.

No new game start required.

And I think even the DLC will NOT require a new game neither.

New games are usually never *required*, but they often might be *suggested* to take full advantage: a patch can fix an issue and even be supposed to let the universe recover from the damages a previous bug might have caused (let's say starved economy as an example), but that could take a lot of time, or such "damages" might be by now too deep to really allow for a real complete recovery. You can keep playing by all means, but a new game might offer a better, more seamless and reliable experience overall.

I'll make another example that does not concern bug fixes: they probably will be able to add the Split and their sectors without requiring a restart (unfortunately imo, because I think that's when some heavy galaxy layout and ship rebalance fixes should be introduced, fixes that would have to be savegame incompatible, but I doubt they'll do it). Anyway, the Split will most likely have set relations with current races, they might be supposed to be at war with some of them, for instance. But if in your galaxy those races have already been all but wiped out by someone else (even yourself), then you might not be able to enjoy the war they should have waged against the Split, or the war mission chains involved. Things like that.

I start a new game like every 2 weeks,
just because I keep looking for ways to make it better with mods, I guess that says a lot in it-self really, I don'y see X4 as ready ready give it a year and maybe in version 5.0 engine performance issues and content would be there to keep the time investment worth keeping as a single play-thru rather than a few days here and there before resets.
