Does anyone like the loud engine noises (esp. when on platforms)
As per topic title. Does anyone actually like that deafening noise that ships sometimes make, especially when you are on a platform? I for one would like to see the feature be removed or the noise changed drastically. I know that No Mans SKy did it quite well but I just dont think it fits in X. It would be nice if different ships made very different, less obnoxious sounds imo.

don't really mind the volume but the sound itself is just bad
Fixed ships getting spawned away from ship configuration menu at resupply ships from automatically getting deployables.

Yeah, I like those sounds. I am used to noisy places and they sound very appropriate.

Seems appropriate to a dock for me.

I don't mind it on the docks, but I do mind it on the bridge.
Some ships will get quite noisy at half-speed. (Nemesis vanguard is one of them.)
Even turning off flight assist and letting yourself drift in space does not help much.

The medium ship engine sounds are very poor, really sharp and grating. Volume is fine, but the sound itself is like a low bitrate recording of a hairdryer. If they were a softer hum that'd be so much better.
Large ships sound great.

The docks do not bother me. But like already said, while in my ship hearing one of my ships a couple of hundred meters or more away is annoying. I was always told sound does not travel well in space. I guess they were wrong. I would think that making it to space you would have some type of sound dampening for your own engines. Maybe everyone wears earplugs to sleep.

I should have been more clear in the OP, the M sized are indeed the worst offenders. The noise ships like the Vulture make to me is awful. The feature is really glitchy too - I know that the sound cuts out when a ship clears that forcefield at the side of the docking bays, but it cuts in and out in a glitchy way more often than not.Archaeosis wrote: ↑Thu, 2. Its interesting to see some people like this

The current sound is just like aircraft turbines, would spaceships have turbines?

Ide suggest making different sounds for each of the races engines, the more engines a ship has, the louder it is. I would prefer ships to make a more subtle sci-fi sound too.

Sometimes I feel like the sounds are a bit weird, it feels like it's not really coming from anything but just there. I thought maybe some of them were bugged and just repeating too much, because it doesn't have much variety.
Never really noticed an issue with volume though.

Out of interest do you use some kind of loudness equalisation on your computer?

Re: Does anyone like the loud engine noises (esp. when on platforms)
I like the idea but the way the sounds work is very inconsistent, some are really loud, some are quieter, and the fade off over distance feels very weird too. Also the actual sound is a bit grating.
Any one of these would improve it but maybe if you changed the noise to something a bit more bassy and quietened most of the treble elements which can be very invasive, as well as looking at the distance fade.
This applies to piloting as well, it feels often like I'm flying the ship with the windows open and the thrusters directly next to my ear. Would be better if the ship you're flying was more limited to low rumbles as the sound travels through the ship rather than through the space air and in through the cockpit window.

Ides and Mercury are really bad for that when maneuvering.Chris0132 wrote: ↑Fri, 3. May 19, 16:04 I like the idea but the way the sounds work is very inconsistent, some are really loud, some are quieter, and the fade off over distance feels very weird too. Also the actual sound is a bit grating.

I have not only volume control in the game setting’s! But also on my speakers too!
That obvious fix is a little too easy, As for the engines sounds! Have you seen the size of some of the Engines? I would be disappointed if they made little sound!
It’s a Dock, with massive ships’s trying to slow their mass and land successfully.
Try standing by an international airport runway! Then multiply that for out in the X. And you will get some huge sounds.
Adjust your volume if it is not to your taste.

I like it, I think it adds to the immersion.

I like them. Admittedly it can be a bit loud on the M platform of a wharf, but I enjoy just hanging out on the upper level with all the noise and activity of shifts arriving and departing.

Argon M ships and above sound like vacuum cleaners when they maneuver around and their bridges are annoyingly noisy. Just one more reason to fly Paranid master race.
