Hi all
Just started playing this game after watching lots of YT tutorials.
After doing a bit of crystal gathering, I wanted to build a medium ship to do some Nvidium mining. However the 4 shipyards I've checked are all out of engine parts. I queued my new ship up anyway, hung around for 30 mins but it was never built. I tried delivering the engine parts myself, but my starter ship can only hold 5 at a time, and the stations need 100s.
Am I missing something, had an unlucky start or is this a bug?
This is the norm. All the races are spinning up ships and there are shortages. Argon Prime is often in better shape as is the Alliance Of Words since nobody orders ships on their shipyard.
Probably not what you wanted to hear but we've all been there. After a few hours things do start getting better. If you can sneak in a transport ship you can make good money supplying them.

Thanks for the reply.
I've been doing some reading in the meantime and can see lots of others are having the same "issue". If that's how it is, that's fine. I kind of like the idea that you start with the economy in tatters and have to build up. I like slow starts in games and usually gimp myself with mods/self-imposed restrictions if I'm progressing too quickly. Just wanted to check I wasn't overlooking something obvious. Here's hoping I can find an abandoned M size trading ship so I can start moving those engine parts!

If you join the Teladi trade guild I can assure you... before 2.5 comes out at least... the skies will be littered with M ships inside mine-fields. Free bags of money or needed transports and they usually spawn near the gates. I have 3 auto-traders that I picked up like that early on. But until you can buy ships your stuck with picking up gutter trash for pilots since training is pretty broken so you'll have to queue up all the trade runs yourself for the most part unless everything happens to be inside the same sector. Still when you can carry a few hundred ____ parts per run, this problem gets less tedious.

Good luck.... Seek out the ALI warf!
I second finding the ALI wharf, but it isn't in an easy to find location. I found it by accident, going through a wormhole that dropped me next to it.
Engine parts seems to be a common things that shipyards run low on, but it can be other things as well. Address the Engine parts shortage by building engine parts modules, for example, and another ware will all of a sudden be in crticically low supply. In my case, weapon components are the limiting factor, and everything else is abundant.

Oh if your ship wasn't built by ai make sure you lower your presets. Then upgrade later at equipment docks that usually does the trick. Also shipyard are short due to raids and wars. So not unlucky just the economy in x4.

After hanging around for 4.5 hours patiently waiting for my 2nd mining ship to be built, I thought "Surely it doesn't take the AI this long to transport some engine parts" and was getting a bit despondent. I followed your advise and just cancelled my "going nowhere" order and requested a minimal preset order. It worked and my new mining ship was build straight away.
THANKYOU Nifhtyeq!!!
I'm now going to play the game with new enthusiasm, knowing that I can at least get a minimal specced ship built at the wharf, then fly it to the equipment dock to get it upgraded.
