Piloting skill

Post by grytulv »

This has been a hot topic, i know. But i can not wrap my head around this. Is it still not properly implemented or am i just missing the point.

I want to have pilots with 3 stars piloting skill. I get one with two stars and i try to set him up as a miner subordinate. Time passes (ten in game hours ish), and the management skill is raised from 0 to 2. Piloting skill the same. I try him as a trader, same happens. I have a 3 star autotrader, working for 10 hours. No increase in piloting, management raised by some. I have a S ship with a pilot escorting a trader with protect. No piloting skill exp.

So. To get autotrade to work, you need piloting 3 stars. A trader gets management exp when trading. Whats the logic? How can i train my crew to get better in piloting, when none of the above works. Its like playing an rpg, where you need 6 strength for a specific sword, and you have 3. You hack and slash, get charisma. You mine and get wisdom, do deadlifts and intelligence. No way to get that bloody sword.

I know about getting new captains in new ships and all, but thats out of the scope of my question.

For piloting skill buy pilots don't bother training them. All other skills increase quickly.

I'm fairly certain its broken...even the venture ships which " should level up Faster " dont ergo broken..like a lot of other things..broken..however as time time passes and patches get released things get fixed..this will be on their list but as you know because there is a workaround how high up that list it is your guess would be as good as mine I will add that since 2.2 the pilot level of purchased ships to me at least seems higher...so my advice would be to just assign your lower level pilots as station subordinate traders/miners.and roll the RNG on ship purchases to get the higher level ones....
just so you dont feel isolated on this issue my game started on 1.5 and 2000 hrs ,156billion cr later I still have original ships from then that have never changed level...

good luck

They level up faster if they sell their product for more.

So for example if your miner is mining Ore but selling it for minimum price it will be losing morale and gaining piloting skill very slowly. On the other hand if it is selling for maximum price it will be gaining both morale and piloting considerably faster.

With player owned stations one can mitigate this issue to some extent by setting the price of self produced or mined wares to average. Average levels one party slower but does not provide a morale penalty to either party.

The only change i've had in piloting skill so far is by sitting in the cockpit while a pilot was assigned to fight an enemy. After around 4 or 5 fights the star had moved slightly. This was a 0 star pilot. All other pilots, either subordinate traders/miners, auto traders or protecting ships, havent moved an inch in 50 hours or so. I really do hope this will get attention soon. Its kinda dull to give the pilots a gun to get skilled enough to trade.
