The list of modules on the left, where you pick up which module to build, is not sorted alphabetically:

It really makes browsing trough the list really irritating.

It is first sorted by the production "category" (a.k.a the little icon in the top left corner) and then alphabetically. The category sorting roughly represents the order in which products appear in the economy. So Energy Cells is needed for everything and has no ware resource, then productions consuming mining wares and so on.
