Ship Recommendations.

Post by Nort The Fragrent »

Ship Recommendations.

Please post your favoured ship configuration, and what it is best for!

Please state the reason why, and what not to use on a particular ship!

Please don't get into criticising what someone else recommends, But do add a reason why it could be better for a particular purpose.

For Example:

Hermes V Transporter : Container storage. 7,100

ARG Mk3 Combat Engine.
Combat Mk3 Thruster.
TEL - Mk2 Shield.
ARG - Beam Mk1 Turret. ( is this any good for defence ? )
Docking Computer Mk1.
Flight Assist Software Mk1,
Long Range Scanner Mk2,
Police Scanner.
Targeting Computer Ex Mk1
Trading Computer Ex Mk1,
Consumables ! ( What is best to aid the ship during an attack ? )
Crew ? ( How many and why ).

This is not about criticising, or complaining ! This so we can configure our ships better with whats available !

Thank you in advance for your contributions.

Hermes S, High Standard outfitting (all races), Argon Military Engines, Max S/W, 12 ADV:24 SAT:26 NAV:26 RES:12 LT1.

Essentially this is probably the most optimal M Trader configuration Cargo:Speed ratio wise. Argon Military instead of Paranid Military since the Argon Military gives a better cruise speed.

Similarly for the Plutus S (Mineral) and Plutus S (Gas).

I love my Nemesis Vanguard, but it does make me feel like any other medium or small ship is obsolete, which I'm not fond of.

Right now I have mine loaded out with:

4 M Bolt Repeater MK2
1 M Ion Blaster Mk2
2 M Beam Turret MK 1

2 Tel M Shield Generator MK 2

1 Par M Combat Engine MK3

1 M Combat Thruster MK3

With some engine and hull mods the cruising speed isn't too hard to get up over 600 m/s. I love the speed and firepower packed into a M sized ship. Fighters and M ships die quickly. I'm not sure how much damage the beam turrets do, but with no travel time they seem to hit a lot. And I went with the Teladi shields for the extra 2k protection before adding mods.

I suppose the downside would be that it has the smallest cargo hold of all M class ships but that dosn't really bother me since I just use it to explore and fight.

If you mean personal ship, i used the nemesis vanguard the most. It's the joker, guess it's the best ship overall - which is sad from balance perspective.
Don't think choices matter much as you can mod any M/S ships easily and make them better then any NPCs.

Used only combat engine for instant travel drive, better boosts, and strafe speed,
2x pulse with green damage mod so i always have a weapon off cooldown,
2x beam with purple cool-damage mod for burst,
a torp launcher for killstealing in case i need rep,
7 marines to train a proper boarding team (takes insanely long to train and very annoying to retrieve so i gave up on that until ES implements crew mechanics),
a 5* engineer.

Kills anything, never dies, found the 6-8k modded travel speed and 600 m/s cruise sufficient for any situation, even like how it looks. Takes about 1-2 hours from start to get the cash for it.
For bigger target hulls (I and stations) i call in a destroyer or 2 when they are safe.

Needs no fleet support to clear up a xen sector IS, i found babysitting just 5 destroyers is not worth the hassle and i'm better off without other ships until opposition is cleared and i can just issue a kill command for large hulls safely.

Tried to mod and use an ody, but their dps does not compensate for slow movement - it looses in much more situations then any modded M class fighter so i found it pointless.

Only do trading/mining remote so only interested in combat vessels.
Trade ships i use differ based on purpose and requirements so there is no favourite there.

Zeus Vanguard, exceptional mods applied to fly at 390 m/s, over 10k in travel, near 500k shields. I use Teladi shields and Paranid engines on all combat ships.
All top turrets are PAR M plasma and one PAR L plasma with four docked gorgon sentinels each fit with four PAR M plasma, each gorgon is modded to have more hull and shield hp and all 16 of their combined plasma turrets have been modded for increased damage. The bottom turrets are PAR M pulse for anti small ship defense. Paranid turrets have a slightly faster rotation speed then Argon or teladi, giving them better tracking, so always use those.
This monster eats xenon Ks in moments and I've soloed xenon Is with it. Its fast too, able to run down just about anything, or disengage away from danger if things get too hot.

Odysseus Vanguard, also with exceptional mods to push it into the 350 m/s range. Top L turret, bottom Two L turrets fit with L plasma, back L turret fit with L beam. Front top and bottom M turrets are fit with M plasma, the back top and bottom turrets fit with M pulse. Lots of forward fire power with this setup, able to put main guns, 3 L plasma, and 4 M plasma onto enemy capital ships while the rest of the turrets serve as fighter defense.

Don’t expect diversity...

99.99999999999999999999999% of players use the nemesis vanguard fully moded and most of the time with full bold configuration. It’s a beast. You can gank every ship in that thing. We desperately need shop diversity. And please egosoft ... avoid us the other games mistake to creat the same ship in every factions with just a different skin. We want unbalanced things with races specificities ...

We want an improved X3... just give us the X3 ships back. Period.

If we are talking personal ships... I would prefer the Nemesis Sentinel to the Nemesis Vanguard, but even then they are both still glass canons and only really any good in a straight line. I would favour the Gorgon over the Nemesis though - it is more resilient, can carry Mk2 LTs and is sufficiently fast.

For my personal shuttle, I have a 10k+ boost/cruise Pegasus but it's stopping distance is a bit long. Great for scouting out hostile territory, assuming no prevailing environmental concerns.

For my flag ship - I love the Colossus (Sentinel or Vanguard - it is a close run between them) but my preferred fighter is probably the Pulsar with the Eclipse as a close second.

You can kill anything with anything just about, it just depends on how long you want to take to do it. A frigate with four plasma turrets is better at taking down large ships where the nemesis excels more at killing M sized ships and below. I use nemesis for clean up work, it stays docked on the back of an ody until all the big stuff is dead, then I undock in the nemesis to kill the small stuff and collect loot. When just zipping about the game world though, I prefer a pulsar over a nemesis. Nemesis is heavy and has trouble stopping out of travel mode, I don't like using it for casually coursing around.

Favorite Fighter under AI - Buzzard Sentinel - 3 Weapons, tough as nails (5k Hull, 2x Mk3 Teladi Shields). Speed is overall slow @ 202, but when assigned as fleet operations attacking stations or area defense, it doesn't matter. This also helps keep them from wondering off.

Favorite Fighter under Player - Pulsar Vanguard - 6 Weapons, Fast, Maneuverable, but can't take much of a beating. IMO, it's a mistake to put in AI hands in mass, as they can get stomped pretty fast by a couple drones, and the 6 weapons doesn't matter since AI is a terrible shot ;-)

Favorite Medium - Nemesis Vanguard - 5 forward weapons + 2 Turrets. Fast, Tough, Dependable. In player hands, my favorite configuration is 4 Pulse Lasers + 1 Tracking Launcher (or torpedo launcher if hitting a lot of stations) and 2 Plasma Turrets. In AI hands, Loadout varies. If it will be doing a lot of station attacks, all Plasmas. If point/destroyer defense, 5 Pulse Lasers + 2 Plasma Turrets.

Favorite Destroyer - Odysseus Vanguard - This is the fastest Destroyer. I typically equip all Plasmas, and each one I assign 10 Buzzard Sentinels + 1 Nemesis Vanguard. I usually assign 1 lead ship, either a Carrier (If intended to be Zone Defense) or a OV, and 9 OV Subordinates, each with their 10 fighters + 1 NV. Mostly untouchable task force. With 2.5 Beta, I've been playing with adding a resupply ship to the mix as well, but that AI needs work to be effective.

Favorite M Transport - Hermes Sentinel or Demter Sentinel - Good size cargo bays with fast speed. I typically go DS simply b/c I bought them from the Paranid for so long due to the location I was prior to having my own Shipyards.

Favorite L Transport - Shuyaku Sentinel - Let's face it, Large Transports are terrible for anything outside of assigning Manual Trade orders. Sending them multiple zones away to haul goods, a Medium Transport can make the same trip 5 times over. I use the SS solely to manually move supplies between my own stations. The SS has the largest Cargohold to accomplish that task with as few clicks as possible. For anything AI controlled, you're far better off going with 5 or so Hermes Sentinels or Demeter Sentinels over a single SS.

Regardless of ship configuration, I do the following components:

Max MK Paranid Engines (Combat for combat role, Travel for M Transports, All Round for L)
Max Mk Boosters - No Racial specifics (Combat for combat role, All Round for others)
Max MK Teladi Shields

For Weapons, I try to stick with the weapons of the faction who's ship it is for aesthetic purposes. AFAIK, there's no racial differences. Loadouts differ by role/class.
All your Hyperion Vanguards are belong to us.

Zeus Vanguard since you can dock M class ships and use them as extra turrets and for drone/missile storage. Also with 30 torpedo fighters with combat engines and at least 3 main torpedo weapons and the right pilots (minimum 3 stars preferably 4 and some getting rid of ships that just don't fire for some reason, pilots as service crew might help but I haven't tested it yet) a xenon I can easily be destroyed quickly without any losses. 2 tracking missile turrets on top and the rest plasma not that it usually matters unless you are laying siege to a station or get too close to a capital ship.

My current favorite ships are based mostly what i know or what i have had for some time, nothing fancy :)

Nemesis Vanguard - 4 Pulse Lasers + 2 Beam and heavy torps

For pure logistic reasons i only use Shuyaku Sentinel. No weapons/turrets, Mk3 truster + Tel shielding ... reason i move manualy alot of stuff around between my own stations and M class ship takes many many clicks also the property menu gets a little bit too extensive if i had to use m class freighters by the buckets.
Before these i used Sonra Vanguard (Argon shields, etc but without shields) and before that Mercury Vanguard again no turrets but with max shields, etc.

For minning i use only L class ships (Magnetar (Mineral/Gas) Vanguard)... Truster Mk3, engine type all round, shields argon design... but again no turrets. I used in the past Drill Vanguard and Sunder Vanguard again no turrets but max shields, etc.Reason for using L ships is quite simple i dont like to have an insame amount of M´s and yes because i can at the moment .

For autotrade, on stations i use the Argon Mercury Vanguard ... they where afordable in the beginning so i still have some of those and i still use them for the specific task till these days. Only Max shielding, trusters and such and no weapons/turrets.

Currently buidling up an "fleet" as resources allow. So i dont have any preference when it comes to carriers or fighters or how to make a wing work.
Have currently 5 Oddies and 1 Condor with 10 Quasers+10 Eclipse
