Returned to the game to play a little differently, my thoughts.

Post by skyneedler9 »

Well, I've come back from my break to see how it's going, and I changed my tune from getting goals quickly to just enjoying the scenery.

I mean this game is the master of the old saying "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should." I'm just riding it out as a little pirate, or whatever I am, I pick on everybody even pirates but I had to be friends with some to get them equipment dock benefits early on in the game. I stopped caring about the war stuff cuz letting the AI duke it out themselves and trading with them is fine and sooner or later I'll get big enough to start picking on their ships and enjoy the process of boarding more xD.

Patience is really good in the game because pacing yourself, not jumping in and taking out a faction's tech freighters, or crippling the AI all together seems to be more fun. Why break the system for short term satisfaction when you ruin the rest of the game that way in the long run, it's your universe i guess but that would be all the more reason to kinda take the time to shape it your way. Honestly, I just think being more considerate and weighing options and sorta thinking in the long run about goals really brings the best out of the game.

I still notice some bugs here and there, but I'm pretty satisfied with the 2.21 so far. I'm looking forward to getting to 3.0 and to see the split DLC, but something has bugged me since hearing about that and that is...... "Where are the Corporations!?" I mean the DLCs of new races would only be, Split, Boron, and Terran, and maybe a more bolstered and dangerous xenon and Kha'ak presence.

So is there some secret stuff Egosoft is planning? Is all the corporation factions being considered in DLC stuff? Atreus, StrongArms, OTAS, Terracorp, Plutarch, Jonferco, Dukes, NMMC... or even the return of the Yaki pirate faction? IF this is a reimagining I can understand a change, but this would be quite the opportunity I'd say, to really play with a corporation's personality in this game, by really giving them some specialties like; items, ships, upgrades, weapons... so on.

What's the thought on everybody else's mind?

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should, is a freedom not enjoyed by any other X game before. I'm glad X4 doesn't have the safety net like X3s god or XRs indestructible stations. The game world is like a garden now. You can tend to it, or you can dig it all up with a shovel like a maniac.

Exactly and I think that's what I guess I was missing out on for rushing into buying the biggest ship or looking for shortcutting, you stop seeing the big picture, and it's exactly that garden analogy that's making me appreciate it more. Yes, it takes time and almost forever sometimes for a faction to stabilize its shipyards, but that's what gives the player more choice to impact this universe, and missions and what stations they build which I'll tell you right now as of this update even pirates are asking people to build stations! If you want the factions to do more for themselves, the opportunity to help them get there is present. Combat is self gratifying and quick, but always remember, this is 4x, it's not just Fight. It's Trade, Fight, Build, and most importantly Think! \o/
