Chill time Setting up The Ring - 100Mil Gate defence

Hey.

So with thanks to pref for sharing his pics on his gate defence, I thought I would make one for my self :D and go over how I made it and more so how to line it up with the gate . Really hope we get the ability to choose aggressive or defensive stances for our turrets :) and REALLY hope that our ships would resupply automatically at chosen stations in future. Not wait until the player issues an order and then be told that its out of ammo -.- rofl

So the future plan for this system is to defend gates and also be a rearming station, where we would need to install all the modules to produce consumables :> and like this our ships would not need to move far to restock. Providing Egosoft sets up the whole rearming correctly and include some automation to the AI were we could tell A pilot or a selected group of pilots that at X % hull or ammo go to X repair or resupply with a rule, stating as long as its not in combat.

Why bother with a station to defend the gates... The Xenon only send a few Ks and Is through them. Nothing 20 Frigates set to defend cannot handle out of sector in a few seconds. Much cheaper than a 100M station and they can even be redeployed if required.

Also this clearly is exploiting game bugs since one is not meant to be able to build stations inside gates from what I can tell (gates have plots they sit in to prevent this).

Well from my experience some small/medium Xenon and Khaak ships just spawn anywhere in the sector (mainly around the player ship) and don't use gates. I've seen some k's in Argon Prime that didn't arrive via Hatikvah's Choice so not sure where they originated from.

well I didnt build in the gate, just around it. I understand your point tho. Dont see this much as an exploit to be honest. I know the amounts of enemy ships can come through, more so when at war with PAR at the same time so yes a few ships can defend a gate no problem more so a few nemesis with dumbfire missiles in OOS combat. However, IS combat I would like a rearming station and why not at the place where I am defending? also I could move all the ships that are defending that area and use them somplace else without even thinking about that sectors defence in terms of ship maintenance repairs or replacement. and 100M im not finished building on it as an idea yet, but what else will you spend money on? More ships ok .. gets boring tho.

True if you fly out quite a distance you will get spawns or "teleported" next to you as the AI is supposed to "build" all the ships. Never had the K thing you mentioned tho

Yep, that's why I use a mod that won't let NPCs teleport in front of the player, if I can't jump then neither can the AI. If it gets too easy, I'll add one that makes the AI more aggressive.

As far as it being a waste of money. Well if your making tens of millions an hour and have half a billion or more credits sitting around, then why not. Build it once and never worry about it again. Then put your ships someplace that matters. I don't have anything that big yet (or nearly enough credits to do it), but I gave up on ships defending my stations and just put a bunch of static defenses in place instead. Maybe when the AI gets better and stops trying to defend my station from 30k away, then the ships will be worth it.

totally agree with your reasoning :) The spawning / teleporting of ships mostly happens a good distance away from stations which tend to stay in that "area" where they spawn.. At least thats what I have noticed. The idea of finding groups of ships doing stuff a little ways away from stuff is a nice idea, just very poorly implemented.
