Reservation of Resources When Purchasing Ships.

Post by Herbaceous »

I've posted this on the Steam forums, but figured it might be better off here as well...

First off: Loving the game. It's great to see Egosoft return back to the flavour of the original X series.

With that out of the way, I feel there's a significant issue with personal expansion!

I have been working hard to increase my resource structure, with miners and small/medium traders covering most sectors that require it. I've also started expanding my private station. So all seems good, in theory...

Two days ago I ordered a frigate from Paranid space. It told me some of the resources were missing, but I figured it wouldn't be a problem because I could deliver what was required with my large freighters. I track down the missing items and send my two 15,000,000 credit large hauler ships to go get, and supply the wharf.

Several hours pass and I see that the resource stock in the wharf I am delivering to looks a bit unbalanced compared to what I was delivering. I send my ships off again and repeat the process several times. Still no ship construction... #1 in the queue but resources dropping for some reason.

Okay, so I figure they must be stockpiling the required resources for my order (bear in mind this is just a medium sized ship). A day has passed now and I check stocks again but notice further decline, even though I have delivered enough supplies to make about 5 of these ships. I figure I must be missing one resource that's not being listed. So I check the station inventory again and choose two of the lowest numbers, then send my freighters off to grab as much of that resource as possible and return. Which they do.

2 days have passed (I've spent a lot of time doing other things, naturally), so I go to check the status... NO WAY! Now the shipyard is in need of thousands of items again and my ship order is still sitting there, unactioned.

Here's the thing: Can I assume that the resources I am sending for my ship construction are not being reserved for my order and are instead being consumed for other NPC's because the station doesn't have all of the required parts for construction at once? Or is this a known bug/issue?

In my mind, as soon as I place that order, and see I am #1 in the queue, I should have priority for all resources that are needed to construct my ship(s) until the order is fulfilled. I shouldn't have to try to attempt a logistical nightmare with five or six 15,000,000 credit haulers to go get everything that's needed, then return and deliver at exactly the same time, just so the game can register it's okay to build now. I'm not an entitled snowflake (as one responder on another post seems to think when having in-game issues) but I do expect things to make sense.

Or am I missing some aspect here?

Any, constructive, help would be appreciated :)

As soon as the station (wharf or shipyard) has the ressources to build one of the ship in the queue, it is doing it.
It means that big ships get stuck for ever being bypassed by smaller one.one of the many stupid thing in the design for now...

Yep, if they don't have the resources for that L or XL they go on with others, not entirely stupid since they can at least get the other ships they need cranked out but certainly infuriating to the player waiting on his ship. I will not place an L or XL order unless they can start right now. I pause while I do the loadout too, so one can't slip in ahead of me. Now however it's largely moot. The resources are pretty well sorted everywhere and I can get whatever I want built now. (~150hrs).
