Display my Coords and Y axis

Post by brekehan »

I can't really get the hang of the Y plane on the map. Is there anyway to show my 3d coordinates as I am flying, so I can tell when I am gaining or losing Y?

Also, how are you guys able to tell the Y relative to you on the map?

I'll just want to second that, if by "Y" you mean the vertical axis (I usually see it as axis Z, but whatever). You don't have measurements, but you can have a sense of how high or low you are by tilting the map with the right mouse button. It will show a line from you (and other objects) to the "floor".

The up and down axis is the Y-axis. The lack of ability to give commands in the Y axis is a main gripe of mine.

Fortunately the game avoids deviating too much on the Y axis so this is not really an issue.

I deviate on the Y axis quite a bit. I turn the auto roll off for combat and when combat is over there is no telling where I am on the Y axis. I need to easily identify whether I need to nose down or up to return to the plane where my destination is.

That is what the radar map is for. As it has lines and markings showing the current orientation.

Right...
So, I want to get these space fly eggs:

Which way you want me to turn my nose according to this radar map?

You target them (press T when cursor is above them in map view) then follow the white target arrow.

I know this sounds overly argumentative, and I really am not trying to be on of those guys on the internet... but then, I wouldn't be using the lines on the radar map. I'd be navigating solely by targeting.

My point is that it is extremely difficult to tell where you are in the Y plane relative to other objects. I'd really like an option to put my 3d coords in the lower left or right hand corner of my HUD, and to be able to see the 3d coords of other objects through some menu option, or constantly while targeted.

Sure, there are the C64k Elite radar map lines, but with the map so cluttered full of small objects, they aren't very usable.
