The starting ship sucks. No cargo hold, and AFAICT not enough weaponry to even blow up an xenon N.
I've got alot of N and M around a mission I want to complete. Is it worth upgrading the weaponry on the Elite Vanguard I start with? Or should I just save for a new ship? If the former, how do weapon upgrades work? How can I tell what I can get and what kind of dmg it does?
When I select another weapon, I see a message "not enough components on station, order may take a long time"...well all stations seem to have 0 of everything....
If I order it, do I just sit here and let the game run and go watch TV? Is there a way to cancel?
Upgrade or no?

Re: Upgrade or no?
Just my opinion, but I'd ditch it as fast as possible.
Check out wharf in Argon Prime or the ALI wharf in Trinity Sanctum VII.
Both are usually well stocked.
The pulse laser MKII does an amazing job. Don't be mislead by the fact that it's the only one available without a license of some kind.
You should be able to see your ship under construction (via the map) and cancel the job, if it hasn't started already.
