Cap ship fights in X:R looked marvelous - destroyed surface elements spewed out fire and smoke, the ending explosions felt enormous and looked impressive. Unluckily, this isn't really the case with cap ship battles in X4 - the look of them are really flat, not the least the explosions. Quite the let down. And who can say that explosions doesn't matter!? Of course they do!
While I can see this kind of graphical upgrade isn't prioritized here and now, I still really hope Egosoft will soon find the time to do something of the visual impact of cap ship battles to make them, at the very least, on par with X:R!

there are mods that adds exactly that
Fixed ships getting spawned away from ship configuration menu at resupply ships from automatically getting deployables.

Actually, those mods are work in progress at the moment. But they are not hard to find, really. Even on this forum.

I'm sure modders some day can take X4 to the same levels as X:Rs explosions, weapon effects and damage models. I would much rather see Egosoft themselves do that, though.

the assets form rebirth are in the game and mods just enable them
A ship mod puts rebirth ships in the game and on the nexus page there is rebirth explosions and texture mods
and a WIP mod where modder will bring back smoke to destroyed turrets
Fixed ships getting spawned away from ship configuration menu at resupply ships from automatically getting deployables.

Yeah, but I don't know how stable those Rebirth ships are compared to the X4 ones. Also, it would be nice if those effects applied to all capital ships in X4. That's what I'm looking for.

Though, since this is such an obvious downgrade compared to X:R, it just must be on a list on someone's table at Egosoft waiting to be fixed/implemented. Epic explosions, weapon effects and smoking damage models are equally important to trade/economy fixes... or?
