Any sure-thing sectors for these stupid "Engine Parts"
I'm now in the boat a lot of other players are. I need another ship for the mission to blow up the anomaly for the player HQ . I have an order in at Argon Prime's wharf, which I was given to understand was generally well supplied. But my order is 6 deep behind others, all locked up on engine parts that haven't arrived in 4 hours of game play. What executed quickly was the order to strip-down my discoverer starter ship so it's now made of glass again and I'd prefer not to fly it around. I was fortunate to mine enough crystal early on to outfit a nice M transport and so I figured, "fine I'll do it myself" and hopped in it to explore some more to hopefully find an engine parts factory. So far, I've found none. Are there any that are definitely always on the map, or are they completely random?
I'm not yet rich enough to build a station nor do I have enough faction relations to even get the blueprints. In my exploration of hours last night Grand Exchange was a no-go as was Argon Prime, and Hakivah-whatever, Finding all the stations is a tedious process so I'd like to short-cut that a bit since I don't have unlimited free time to hunt them all down. I guess I may have to go mine the crap out crystals and build my own factory but first I wanted to see if there are some sure-thing sectors to look in?

They're not necessarily called "Engine Part Factory". Instead of looking stations by name, better look at trade offers to see if anybody's selling. Might be e.g. a Ship Technology Factory.

Oh, and also, don't trust that UI that tells you about missing engine parts. A better way is to scan the wharf's storage and look at what it's really low on, and supply that.

Good tip! Thanks. I'll keep an eye out then on the offers. So far the universe only has buy orders still for Engine Parts though so I guess I have not found one yet.

Yep, I saw the inventory, it's actually engine parts that's at 0.radcapricorn wrote: ↑Thu, 14. Mar 19, 15:11 Oh, and also, don't trust that UI that tells you about missing engine parts. A better way is to scan the wharf's storage and look at what it's really low on, and supply that.

i want to suggest that you have a look onto a systems description in your ency... the description indicates what a systems primary production is and if you come across a system that tells "ship tech" you will have to find the stations in that system.
chances are good that you may find a few more engine part productions...
eventually you may want to have a closer look were stations are placed in a system, you can do that when you use the plot managemt tab on the map... this will not tell you what kind of station is at wich position but it can help you to find all stations that are currently present in a system.

This is how a game s(p)oils itself.eMYNOCK wrote: ↑Thu, 14. Thank you! I’ll check that out.
The exploration side is actually ok fun but now I’m on a quest so impatience is getting to me.
Appreciate the tip!

just keep up the patience... no need to hurry... the mission you are on is not time critical...photomankc wrote: ↑Thu, 14. Mar 19, 15:56 Thank you! I’ll check that out.

There are 12 engine factories in the Universe, 4 Teladi and 8 not Teladi. They spawn randomly at game start.

In my pre 1.6 start Antigone had lots of high tech factory's for ship tech with the exception of smart chips ..but everyone's game is different
HOP were crippled full stop.short of everything but went on a building frenzy.
ALI and MIN had working Wharfs and the ARG economy was slow to start but I spent a lot of time there mining..it could be Player interaction in a sector makes a difference to how the game responds.
After a long time mining I then went exploring to map the Galaxy avoiding most fights then did the short PHQ missions then started going after ships...then the empire.
By that time things were starting to move forwards.
But this was before the Faction wars were implemented and the Xenon were content to mainly staying at home with a few forays into neighboring sectors.at that time if a K went up against a station it lost to turret fire not anymore.
Both HOP and PAR took the longest before regular availability of ships.
in Holy Vision in the end I had to build 800million Mega Plex to keep them going..but it was a licence to print money it soon overtook all other station together at making money.
So for me getting hold of smart chips and getting them to Antigone was how I started.

It's an exploit and not the intended way to explore sectors and find stations.eMYNOCK wrote: ↑Thu, 14. Mar 19, 15:59its a valid mechanic...radcapricorn wrote: ↑Thu, 14. i want to agree and disagree at the same time...
is it an exploit? sure thing.
does it prevents one from going to the coordinates to exactly KNOW what is there? nope!
is the AI using a script that grants them the same if not more intel that the player ever could have... damn yes they use such a thing... they know what kind of station you have the moment you place a manager on it... and that snitch will even tell the AI if the plot is payed or not.
do i feel guilty because i look onto a map that tells me.. "hey there is a piont of intresst.. go and check what it is!" ? - nope.. clearly not

Success!!
Going into the encyclopedia and looking up the sectors that specialized in "Ship technology" eventually got me there. I was up till 1AM though pinging away and visiting stations. I have no idea who it is that is complaining that space feels 'small' in these games? I don't have SETA yet and I can tell you space feels plenty spacious after two solid nights of flying around in a Ides with Combat Engines! Finally located a station in Teladi space and am making myself busy getting the parts to the Argon Prime wharf. My new Nova is finally moving up in the queue!

If you've done a bit of exploring ..
Zoom out as far as you can
open filters
select container and specify the ware you want to look for
you can select any ship you own and directly right click on the 'parts for sale' that are highlighted
then just give a sell order to the specific station you want the ship built at
