Question about ventures
Say I send a ship on a 64h venture. I create a save 10 hours later and quit the game. Next day I play for 5 hours more and save the game. Then I don't play for a week. So the venture should run its course during that time. Then I come back, find a change log that mentions a fixed issue, and I load that first earlier save, because it was a convenient spot to test it. That should trigger the venture to complete, correct? So I could find myself facing a dilemma of either losing 5 hours of in-game progress or a 64h venture?

I think it is linked to the time you started the venture in your initial save. So if you load any game that was saved after the venture was launched, and are after the completion time, then the venture should complete.
I remember re-loading a save a couple of time, and getting the "venture complete scare scream" every time I loaded the game (v1.60). So in your case, I think you should be fine, as long as the venture was already launched in your initial save.
Still, just like you, I'd like a more official answer than a "from observations, I think it works that way".
Humans are deuterostomes, which means that when they develop in the womb the first opening they develop is the anus.
This means that at one point you were nothing but an asshole.
Some people never develop beyond this stage.

Re: Question about ventures
You don't have to worry about losing any progress.
If you load the first +10h save then yes, the venture will complete and you'll get your ship back together with all the rewards for that expedition. The "local" rewards (like crystals, credits, modparts etc.) will be added to your inventory and you will also get the account-wide rewards such as paint mods.
If you then load the second save (at +15h) the venture will again complete, you'll get your ship back together with all the *local* rewards for that expedition. But you will not get the account-wide rewards again since you already got them from completing the venture earlier (and the paint mods from that completion are available in your game).
In other words:
rewards that apply to your account (such as paint mods) are granted the first time you complete a venture only.
savegame-specific rewards (inventory items, credits, etc.) are granted every time that same venture completes, no matter how many times you load that save or any other save made between starting and completing the venture.

Re: Question about ventures
Can confirm this works...had to go back to a 1.6 save from a good while ago and although I lost all my EXP mod parts all the SKINS that I garnered during that period ( inc 64hr ) traveled back with me.
