Loosing Squad Info after Player Control

I've a fleet of multiple ships grouped as a squad.
If I take control of e.g. a fighter docked on my flagship, then after landing back on my carrier, that fighter is no longer part of my squad.

Is that the way its meant to be?
I now have to take control of the bridge, re-invite him to squad and then re-issue all that fighter's commands which is a bit of a bother at times.
