I remember you showing us a similar logo in the past. So what is the answer to this theft? I guess you placed watermarks into your pics and used a few well placed pixels in an inconspicous place on the pic as your trademark. What other options do you as creator have?
I have to admit myself to some "borrowing" in the past and if I did so, I heavely modified this to suit me and to make my selection almost quite different to what it was before. No excuse for it though! Since I bought a 20 CD set of over 550 000 clip art, there is no need for me to do so anymore.
On the other hand not everyone is blessed with your talent and this would be an easy cop out to "sponge" of other people's work to get a good design. Not that I would ok it to do so, on the contrary, I would see it in the same vain if someone pinches money from you.
Very tricky subject me thinks

I wouldn't mind so much if they put the image on thir own server...at least then I probably wouldn't know about it. This winds me up a treat because it is blatant! Why can't ppl just have the common decency to ask?. [ external image ]
In answer to your question, I have subscribed to a powerful program hosted by matrixstats which gives me a hell of a lot of info on my site.
A demo is here: http://matrixstats.uh-hosting.co.uk/ go to Referrers/Spongers and this gives me info on who's nicking what, when, where and how........
OK, I'm no angel when it comes to hotlinking but the odd image or two on a forum where posts quickly disappear without trace does little harm and costs even less bandwidth....but to nick an image permanently for a webby is just not on in my book!

There will soon be developed a system even more powerful than the programme described above - a system of ID'ing an image at sub-pixel level - ten times better than the present system of 'digital watermarking'. Meaning that no matter how changed an image is, original ownership can easily be proven beyond doubt (useful for lawyers!). And it'll be just like calling a dog with a silent whistle; run a small prog containing details of all your protected images....wait.....then you'll get a report on the location of any and all of your images anywhere on the Web! Suffice to say, there'll be no place to run OR hide!!!
Don't have any links right now but I'll post some if I get the chance.

Kaiserdrache's had problems with traffic-theft too. Someone just went and copy-pasted a part of his web-site onto their own(
). And of course didn't even credit the original author...

Not quite as bad as Tony Blair who copied the entire report on Iraq (i.e. reasons to go to war) from a Cambridge University student paper written 5 years ago.
Copy&Pasted the entire document, didn't even bother to READ the thing as it still had the same spelling mistakes (underlined in red in MS Word) and grammatical mistakes (underlined in Green in MS Word).

That would be faintly amusing on a different subject.Jericho wrote:Not quite as bad as Tony Blair who copied the entire report on Iraq (i.e. reasons to go to war) from a Cambridge University student paper written 5 years ago.

On that it's just depressing. And a tad sick.

Properties of second pic show you everything you need to know... contact his provider if it's really bothering you.
I always make my own pics, mainly because they then have exactly what I want. My graphical 'skills' may be crap, but that's also a matter of how much time I'm willing to put in it I guess.
Yup, gotta say, that's just something you can't do. But I also think it happens a lot. Chances are you're dealing with a young person here, not realising his error (yet

=UK copyight.
1) Any artwork or stories are the property of its creator but they must be in physical form. You cant own copyright of an idea in your head. It must be recorded somewhere.
2) you cannot copyright a Concept or Genre IE: Space adventures. George Lucas cant create Star Wars then copyright all space adventures.
But you can copyright any ideas within that genres, art, sculpures, stories. X2, Battlestar Galactica.
Egosoft May create X2 but they cannot copyright all Space Games.
3) Any artwork created for an employer, the artwork and designs are still owned by the creating artist. Unless a contract can be made between the employer and artist, to turn the rights over to the said employer. Even then the artist still retains certain rights.
4) you dont have to put that little C mark on your work but you can if you wish. As long as your work is in a physical format, ie on a hard drive, a sclupture, a piece of artwork the copyright is automatically yours.
The above also applies to international copyright with small print differences.
Im not 100% on this but im sure its relativly accurate. Dont take it as gospel.

I still remember someone using some of my Super Exes and placing them onto his own web site. Then trumpeting to the X community about his "new" Exes he just made. Little did he know that I modified some of the startup logos and the startup screens in the Exes which still had "modified by Commander Jamieson" embedded in the Exe.
Or another "smart ar*e" who copied text and pics from my web site word for word and used it on his web site as his own. If these "people" would at least have asked first.
Cheers

Didn't stop George Lucas succesfully suing the creators of Battlestar Galactica though. Not sure how much he made out of it.RustiSwordz wrote:=UK copyight.

It wasn't GL who sued, it was Fox. Here is an exert from the Lucas Biography.Jericho wrote: Didn't stop George Lucas succesfully suing the creators of Battlestar Galactica though. Not sure how much he made out of it.
"All The same, in June 1978 Fox sues Universal for copyright infringement of Star Wars, citing, with a show of imdignation, thirty-four similarities between the two film's. Universal countersued, claiming that Lucas had copied R2-D2 from the robot's Huey, Dewey, and Louie in its 1973 Silent Running."
Although Lucasfilm did sue Universal over merchandising infringement right's, they settled out of court.
Funnily enough Universal won the case in 1980.
