C2D V2.0 New save game repeated CTD
Version and language : V2.0
Whether or not your game is modified : No mods or modified
Game start being played: Unknown Explorer
Exact nature of the problem, where and when it occurs and what you were doing at the time. CTD repeatedly at random times.
Any possibly relevant changes you have made to your game, system, or software before the issue occurred. Moved from SSD to HD
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core Processor
Memory: 16384MB RAM
GPU Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080
Dedicated Memory: 8079 MB
Hi,
Thought I would start a new save as V2.0 is released, I moved the game from my SSD to my HD that holds all my other steam games. Keeps CTD, and the graphics are very slow to load in. New sectors missions are yellow blocks, Highway missing for about 5 seconds, other graphical stuff. I am sure it is because I am now on a HDD but I did not see anything about a SSD in the Specs for the game.
I do run at 4K, but this has been smooth up till now with usually around 60 fps. So the changes are the move to HDD and the new patch. I will move it back to the SSD and see if things improve. Edit. I forgot to say still getting 60 fps, but it is with more issues of slow load-in.
I have 344 hours in steam atm, and not really had any issues till now.
Here is a link to my DXDiag, Vulkan info, Save game and crash reports.

Thanks
David

Re: C2D V2.0 New save game repeated CTD
Are you sure you are not on the beta channel (now 2.10) as that is a debug version and known to run slowly? If not then have you verified your X4 Steam gamefile cache since 2.00 release?
Lastly, is it possible that your HD has some additional encryption/compression on its stored files?

Re: C2D V2.0 New save game repeated CTD
Hi Alan,
I have been on the beta channel till today, when I removed myself from the beta for the reason of the slow downs. I read that on the forums. Then i started a new games, moving my saves out of the folder they were in, so I still have my old saves.
I did verify the game files in steam as I thought it might have gone wrong moving the install.
I do not use either encryption or compression on my hdd.
Thanks for asking and taking a look.

Re: C2D V2.0 New save game repeated CTD
So I moved the game back to the SSD, and the graphics load okay again now.
And the save has a modified tag. Second fresh start where I get the modified tag (did it in 1.6), and I am not changing anything but starting and playing a new save.
I will start another save and see how long I can last before it decides I am modified for no obvious reason. I still do not know if the CTD has stopped, but my will to play is waning fast... I need to go find that questionnaire...

Re: C2D V2.0 New save game repeated CTD
OK I think I have a handle on it. I have disabled my NVIDIA High Definition audio that was doing the sound to my monitor through Display port. I disabled it and ran an audio cable from the PC to the monitor and used the Realtek High Definition Audio. So the display port is graphics only, and I am using onboard sound card.
Now I am getting 75fps in space, and 40 fps in Argon Wharf. It is much smoother and responsive, and it sounds better too. So far so good, no CTD and my gut tells me it is a good move. It has been okay using the Display port and NVIDIA audio up till now, but something about 2.0 has made is not work so good.
Next move it back off the ssd and see what difference that makes.

Re: C2D V2.0 New save game repeated CTD
We've been seeing reports of performance problems with NVIDIA audio drivers since release; it's nothing new in 2.0. Maybe you were just lucky and didn't see them until now, or maybe when you moved your game installation you inadvertently changed the sound configuration.

Re: C2D V2.0 New save game repeated CTD
Hi,
Moving the installation with steam does not reconfigure sound. I have moved the game back onto the Hdd and it is running fine now. I have a few hiccups when it is first loading assets, but then it settles down.
I have just had another CTD, it is X4 that is crashing, but not sure what or why as the game is running great.
I put the crash dump and save game in the link above with the name

Hi,
any ideas from the crash dump what might be the cause of the CTD?
Thanks.

Re: C2D V2.0 New save game repeated CTD
I have had enough.
Power and Sleep: Screen and Sleep: set to never. My computer does not power down or screen save.
The stability is just terrible. I stepped away from my computer twice today, both times I cam back to no X4. It crashed whilst I was doing something away from the computer. I went to make a cup of tea, and later a sandwich, which is not relevant except I was not gone long and I came back to my desktop.
It is frustrating to play V2.0 of a game that is in a worse state than launch. It is a fresh start, so no carry over from previous versions. Vanilla game, no mods. Runs great when it is running, but then stops for no reason. V 2.0 should not have been released this unstable.
I am going to argue that it is not fit for purpose.
I understand how hard everyone is working, I understand how complex this game is. I cannot understand how it is going backwards. I liked the original release, and I am not a big fan of the changes, I do not like being shot at all the time, but it is what it is.
But it should at least run for more than a few hours and not stop randomly when it feels like it.
I am in the technical support area am I not?

Re: C2D V2.0 New save game repeated CTD
sigh, it is impossible to make any progress. 360 hours, and since V 2.0, all the fun is gone... no point anymore... I'll get me coat..
I am going to stop now, and I have uploaded all my crash dumps, just on the off chance anyone is slightly interested. not holding out much hope, I guess that is why we have beta 2.10 looking at stability, maybe the Devs already know this is not a good version.

Re: C2D V2.0 New save game repeated CTD
Hi Hippotastic,
I'm really sorry to hear that you are having quite a hard time with 2.0.
Looking at the crashdumps in your last zip-archive I see that the crashes occur randomly at different places in the game. While I don't want to rule out a problem with the game, this is usually a hard indication of either a hardware issue, data/file corruption of game data, an infection on the system, or a corruption in the OS.
Do you have issues with other games and/or get regularly bluescreens and system instabilities? If that's the case, then I'd suggest you'd run a through disk check of your drives (using chkdsk) and eventually also a memory test program (the built-in Windows one will do fine for starters).
If only X4 is crashing on your machine, you'd validate the file integrity of the game (through Steam) and/or run chkdsk on the drive where the game is located. If you get the modified tag in-game and don't have any mod installed/enabled, this too is a strong indication that something is wrong with the game data (or the game is having trouble reading the data correctly). A try would also be to completely remove the game and install it cleanly by downloading it from Steam again.
Last but not least, you should also check your system for potential malware. While virusscanners find the most severe things, some malware can better be found using specialized software. There are a couple of those out there. One example would be Malwarebytes: https://www.malwarebytes.com/ (for personal use its main functionality (cleaning up an already infected computer) is free).
Hope these information help you to get the system back into a state where the game runs stable for you.
Regards,
Stefan
