Re: Healing ship?
Intercepted message that seemed to have originated from an area now containing the debris of several ships:
"Hello, is that the Green Flag get-you-going and recovery service? Great! Yes, I am a member.
I have a few problems with my engines, could you come and assist please? Fantastic! I'm sending the coordinates now.
How long do you think you'll take to get here? About 20 minutes? Excellent!
See you then. I'll be in the middle of a big firefight with a load of Xenon destroyers. You can't miss seeing me.
Bye for now."
Meanwhile, stock exchange share-prices in Green Flag continue to plummet with the recent losses of many employees and ships and with the rest of their space operatives on industrial action.

LOL! But I was actually thinking of a space-like AAA memebership. Maybe call it Galaxy Ship Association or some such.Alan Phipps wrote: ↑Fri, 22. Feb 19, 12:49 Intercepted message that seemed to have originated from an area now containing the debris of several ships:

However, more than once I've teleported to small and medium sized ships (and traveled once or twice to a lasertower) that had hull damage and used the trusty spacesuit repair laser to bring their hulls up to 100%. It doesn't take long on the small ships but the spacebar is darn near wore out on the medium ships.
Take care,

You can send ships to a shipyard or wharf and get them repaired there.

Could be great if we can order Repair Drones to act on target...

Yes it would!breizhbugs wrote: ↑Fri, 22. Feb 19, 16:50 Could be great if we can order Repair Drones to act on target...
Or have a "repair Turret" that auto targetted any friendly ship within say 1/4 of a km, and fixed it like the hand repair laser. Only equipable on a specific M ship for each faction, which happens to be quite speedy and have great missile defense and a single Small pad for launching drones, but terrible armor, shields, and cargo space, thus making it a ship you wouldn't want to take into big firefight without excessive escorts.
Would work quite well in a support role along side the resupply ship.

The repair laser feels a little Cheaty. It would be interesting if a repair ship had to have parts in its cargo hold in order to make repairs. They could be specific to the items being repaired. Engine Parts/Hull Parts/Turret Components, etc.

Re: Healing ship?
Not sure it's really necessary. In my experience service crews do a good enough job maintaining their ships. Some of them are running around with a few % damage in my game, but not nearly enough damage for me to go to any effort or expense fixing them up to max (even my own personal Peregrine has been on 96% for days). Would really prefer the devs to focus on more important stuff. There are already 3 methods of repairing ships (i.e. service crew, shipyards, spacesuit repair laser) - that's enough for me, don't think we need a 4th.

THIS! I cannot stand how an engineer on a ship can magically repair crap with no materials!

Re: Healing ship?
How about simply putting crewmen on your ships that need repair? I am Not 100% sure if repair drones are required but based on my experience they are not - the repairs may happen slower without the drones though.

Re: Healing ship?
It is not exactly cheaty, it can take a long time to repair a ship that way and given there is teleporting technology in the X-series it is not exactly completely unbelievable for them to be able to perhaps replicate small amounts of repair wares using ship energy. The only reason to not do it at ship yards would be efficiency (and practicality) reasons.

Re: Healing ship?
Well your idea is a bit so so...but what I WOULD want is some ships to actually be usable as dedicated "hull tanks" instead of using shields.
So maybe have special platings on the shield mod slots or even drones that hug your hull and are able to repair you at a way faster speed than normal repairs but you lose a part of burst damage protection as you no longer have shields.....I'd love to play the heck out of an armor tank. X4 could really do with some more damage mitigation and damage types...like a weapon with slight shield penetration or or crippling weapons.
That said, I don't see it as high priority until far more pressing issues have been fixed.
I wouldn't be too amazed about a magic repair crew you can just hire that will fly to your place...this isn't Elite dangerous where your fighters regularly lose functionality or run out of fuel...so they'd be rather pointless especially since hull can already be repaired and broken modules on capships also get repaired after a while.

Re: Healing ship?
XD funny answers..........ok not in the middle of a fight............but i had a my talented destroyer pilot flyed through a mining field.....it took some time to get it to a dock....
that AAA membership sounds nice;)
while in a fight they shouldnt come! but after when its safe and stuff. maybe you can design your ships? like the spacesuit a healing weapon.
then you can call your own healing crew instead:D they would even repair during fight:D

... and calling them into the middle of a minefield is somehow better?
(I assumed that you meant a field of exploding-type mines rather than of mineral mining - but I could be wrong though.)

Re: Healing ship?
It would be possible to repair a ship using resources (such as non-essential) parts of the ship itself and spare parts brought with them. (Who takes out a car without a spare tire?) This is something that is done even on modern ships in distress out on the seas, though it was really last done in WW2. It`s why today`s ships carry such crews exactly for this task out on the seas where repair any other way would be impossible.
However, the ship would never be repaired to 100% in those cases, but they could be quite servicable and sometimes go straight back into the action.
1. Please do more on NPC civilian/uniform variety, and bio customisations, Devs.
2. Stations need sirens/warnings when enemy is close in numbers or Station in danger of destruction (in Sandbox).
Yes, for immersion. Thankyou ahead of time. (Edit: This is actually happening!!!)

Re: Healing ship?
Does a carrier repair docked ships? (i don't think so)
Does Crew repair S ships? (Not sure, cause some of my s ships fly around low health since days but have crew)
Is there an option to order a whole squad to repair? (Didn't noticed it cause normal you have to click all the repair stuff manually)
We need some kind of repair unit like already suggested with turret/engine/hull parts as material for it
Or just consume repair drones during repairs
