10% off X4 on Steam- worth it?

Is X4 worth buying at the reduced price? I'm mulling whether to get it now while it's reduced (will be for another 48 hrs), or is it likely to be reduced further in the near future?

Depends on whether you want it or not, and how badly...

If the question is when will it be deeply discounted next, I would say probably quite some time (6 months at least, just my guess).

If you are into this kind of game I'd recommend it at full price.Yes there are things that need to be
ironed out but it's perfectly playable,runs well,and I haven't noticed any game stopping bugs.

I've poured hours into it and I've barely scratched the surface.

I bought it and have no regrets. It is playable and enjoyable as is, and it only going to get better. I have 330 hours in game, no seta, and can see myself going well over 1000 hrs. I haven't even started building a manufacturing complex or fleet to invade sectors. There is so much stuff to do.

If you're not big fan of entire X-series I recomend you to wait a bit more (like 6 months) for bigger sale and more content patches. The current state of the game is still unfinished work in progress which will not be compensated by -10% sale for next several months.

I can not recommend X4 at this time, while it can be enjoyable (with v1.60) there are too many irritating issues with regards to performance and UI interactions.

However, if you think you are going to get it anyway a discount of 10% is not something to be completely dismissed out of hand.

Depends on your yard stick...

X4 is a sequel to X-Rebirth in terms of engine and lore.

What is the same as X-Rebirth:

• Trading mechanics are the same order based system
• Fleet organisation is the same hierarchical system
• Cruise/Supercruise/Highways
• Ships use the same loose and barely meaningful S/M and L/XL groupings
• Ship/Station building is materials/economy dependent

What has changed since X-Rebirth:

• Pilot any ship you can own
• Ships have properly modelled cockpits and bridges
• No jump drive
• Ships are completely different in the main
• Combat is balanced differently in the main
• Station building is completely different - modular complexes with dynamic plot sizes and locations
• Factions and universe sectors are a subset of the X2 (no split factions, no boron factions)

There are quite a few more bullet points I could highlight but I think that should give you enough information to make your own judgement.

It plays more like TC/AP (as intended) but is based on the engine/reuses some assets from Rebirth

Worth it imo as the 2.0 beta is looking very promising

I don't think anyone can really answer your question, you are the only one that can.
When I first bought X3 TC after playing a few weeks I told myself that these were the best spent money I ever used on a game.I still believe this to be true after so many years.I honestly believe and hope X4 will be a thing as well, given the time.
It all depends if this kind of gameplay suites you or not and in my opinion a few dollars or euros or whatever it you use are not going to change that.
Its a sandbox game and patience is mandatory for this kind of game and the reward is equally higher the more you play the game.If you are looking for a first person 'shoot them up" thing with instant gratification and be the nr 1 master of the galaxy or whatever, then go look for something else.If you want something both challenging and intriguing then do what most of us did and buy it.
After all it is YOUR game.

This is kind of possible....

A feature of X4 that I failed to mention in my earlier post that did not exist in either X-Rebirth nor X3 to any real extent in Vanilla is: a proper sector take over mechanic.

In vanilla X4, it is possible for the player or any other faction to take over sectors via station destruction/building which essentially means it is theoretically feasible for the player to completely dominate the available sectors in X4. With V2.0 this is probably going to be even more true once the player has ship building facilities of their own.

It's much more like X3, with a better UI (not better as in bug free, but regarding capability and how flexible it is), better support for endgame with sector takeovers, similar graphics as in XR, and a smaller universe.
Imo it will catch up to X3 soon, once more content is released and it got some more polishment/bugfixes.

It also has a real nice station build/design interface if you're into that kind of thing.

Ship models lack variety and generally bigger ships look worse imo then in X3. Less AIscripts/commands compared to TC/AP, and still quite a few bugs ofc.

I assume you'd buy it sooner or later, question is how much later - 10% discount might be worth it if you aren't planning on holding back the purchase by half a year or so.

I've noticed it's now been reduced by 25%, like before it'll only be this way for a couple more days.

Why just why dont dropoff in start menu? is simple change can rettetion and please more

2 - Perfomace?
Damm i on board this even beyond recomended settings playing with 30-60 fps in empty game is ok
however in my case with more 700 ship several complex fps go to 5-10 i cant recomend or even enjoy the game with this kind b.s

3 - its not easy to attach since most common thing people try do first time when "login" in this kind universe find missions or plot to guide and introduce game
even XR did rasonable enfforts to reduce this "shock"

4 - AI still dumb as f

Egosoft if you keep doing this kind mistake dont have much X series in future because people cant recomend this game anymore
most actual saying go play X3 because XR(even i like more that X4) most dont like xr and x4 i just cant recomend this game is clear early acess badly optimized with several flaws of desing

If you're patient enough to deal with irritating bugs and issues, then sure buy it. Otherwise, wait for a few more major updates - maybe a few months, and ask the question again.

I am disappointed now and I suggest you wait for the game to fully flesh out. Basic features are not done yet. I guess it needs another year to be completed by mods if not by Egosoft.

Aww come'on... its got shortcomings, but already now, it feels a lot better than rebirth.
Enough to spend a few hundred hours in... though of course depends what you expect of the game.

If you expect a great story for playthrough... you won't find it.
