[Request] Backdrops

Post by ApoxNM »

Hi guys,

for reasons unknown to me ES decided to use cheap and mostly quite ugly looking backdrops in almost all of the sectors. Has anyone made a mod yet, which replaces all the backdrops woth proper HD backgrounds that look good?

If not, is anyone knowledgable enough and motivated to make such a mod?

Really hope someone starts making the game look better, as the sectors are mostly neither unique looking nor really beautiful. Some sectors are ok, but the backdrops look really cheap.

Thanks for reading and have a nice day!

Or could someone give me some advice on how to import backdrops? Have no clue how to do it, but I would do it, if I knew how.

No one has made one yet, and yes I agree they need better backdrops. I know someone will eventually do it like they did for X3 and XR.

There's several mods for XR that change the backdrops, planets and dust/nebula. The one I used in XR was

Ency-Mod viewtopic.php?t=362680

maybe having a look at that? otherwise any backdrop changing mod for XR would be a good start since X4 has the same kind of file structure as XR.

Extract the gamefiles with the cat tool and look in

../assets/environments/cluster

all your questions will be answered there. All the backdrop definition and composition is in those folders. It's not the most easy thing to do, but possible

Thanks for the input, hope it's not too much work, as I don't have so much spear time.
