[MOD] More Immersive Space: Ship Degradation

Do cars last forever? No. They wear down.

More Immersive Space: Ship Degradation

Now all ships in the X Universe will slowly wear down, to the point of catastrophic failure. Crews will bail, ships will explode and your ship can be a ticking timebomb if not maintained.
Good luck.

Features: v1
  • Simulates very gradual wear and tear on ships
  • Docked ships do not suffer damage
  • Increase wear near asteroids to simulate dust/debris getting into systems - maintain your mining ships
  • Very, very rare chance of a ship getting struck by micro meteoroid (high damage chance up to 25% )
  • Playership sound effects of dust/debris hitting hull near asteroids (speed and distance dependent)
  • Default value (7) allows a ship a lifetime of around 12 hours ( a non mining ship should last ~ 24 hrs)
  • Under 10% hull there is a small chance of components being destroyed
  • Under 3% hull there is a chance of catastrophic hull failure destroying the ship and/or crew ejecting
  • Crew has a 50/50 chance of ejecting if destruction is going to happen
  • A damaged ship, especially if you're flying it, is a ticking time bomb!
Great for scavengers. Great if you have too much money. Not so great if your ship is an ill-maintained, damaged mess and you're miles away from a dock.

Hmm another mod that would go with this is the Carrier Repair Mod, it lets your ships get repairs at your carrier or stations owned by you, maintenance crews on stations. :roll:

But I don't think many will use this because you're rushing the damage..24 hours..really? Needs to be maybe a week, game time, or people will feel its not worth the effort of more immersion. :twisted:

This would be great if M ships and above aren't affected, or at least the rate of wear equals the rate of repair by service crew. It'll be far too much micro managing to maintain a fleet of mining ships.

Sounds great for S class ships though, would give carriers/frigates a role of carrying fighters.

Maybe.... I need to check my ships once a game session or two .... but the script can be altered easily enough. Just seems too easy to build up a large fleet as money is easy to come by.

Hence the suggestion to try the repair service with this mod.

Eat up some of those credits

But I can decrease the timescale easily enough ... this just works in my game as I usually don't amass a large fleet.

Wouldn't it be easier (to customize for players) to set the limiter ($mis_damage_chance_limit) through the t-file?

You mean as a conversation? T-files are just language strings as far as I'm aware.

Yes. Not quite sure for X4.
But in the older Ego games you also have the possibility to use a 't-file' for such things. And then check for eg. settings, params, ... Ok, this went with different t-files name id's. Also, when you used such an approach (eg in X3TC), you could check if t-file and setting exist, then use/overwrite the settings/parameters.
(Of course, if you pack it into a cat/dat, this is useless (for most players), because then the player needs to unpack it first.)

I believe some people would like it for realism, but then it needs to be more realistic. Like I said before 24 hours is rushing things badly, and even the carrier mode only allows repairs per the number of crew that are on board that can do it. so even Cerberus carriers would be very slow doing repairs, and so having damage that was heavy during a normal day would just destroy them with little to no way of fixing them in time. also ships like fighters that have little if any crew would just die every day, so many wont like that. if you do it realistically then yes, every ship takes damage just flying around, but this is also a combat game add combat damage to your formula and no one would be able to keep ships in space without costing 3x what they are worth. and yes cars wear out...over years of use...that is realism. :roll:
