Just saw a YouTube video (cant seam to find it again) where the turrets on a M Class ship still activate when docked to a XL class.... so technically we could make modular ships (at least turret wise) by making the "module ships" all the same size with landing points of the same Class.
So for example the eventual Star Trek mod could have an "Enterprise-D-Saucer" and "Enterprise-D-Star Drive" both as M or S class ships (unless an XL dock is created, or ideally we can create our own Classes) with the "Star Drive" section having a landing area for the saucer to dock to.
If we can (or have Egosoft update the game to allow it) create custom ship classes then the docking could even be made to restrict to only allow other valid "module ships" using the Star Trek example again "Star Drive" as an XL with a "Custom1" class dock and the saucer is a "Custom1" class ship, to prevent other "M" class ships taking that landing bay.
With scripts we may also eventually be able to adjust the stats of the "base" ship based on the "docked" ship (should be slower with more mass, or faster if the docked section has bigger engines), would also need a way to prevent ships going into internal storage but could be promising!

Sounds like a way to make super ships with no limitations..nope...pass.

It has already been discussed on the official Discord server as a way to restore the old behaviour of the Kha'ak but the problem is restricting what can dock so that you do not end up with random S ships landing on the corners of the M core of the Kha'ak cluster.
