I seem to have passed some kind of threshold. Suddenly today, after a few hundred hours and an empire worth over 4 billion, the game has started to randomly pause for a few seconds.
I must have a few dozen complexes, many of them quite large (200 million plus). Each has 4-6 miners (tempted to ditch these). I have already ditched my fleet of autotraders (I miss the race relation increase they provided).
16gb Ram and a 1080ti, so they aren’t the problem. I wonder whether my i7 4770k has finally reached its limit. Shame.
Might try a save from earlier today.
Not far off starting a new game. Fewer, larger complexes are the way to go.

Re: Sudden stutter
And if this is an issue, it's probably an opimization issue not.
I get stutters and mini freezes aro8und stations, where I really shouldn't get any with my rig.
So, the game definately needs some optimization.

Re: Sudden stutter
I have the same. Game ran smoothly until I build a few large factory complexes then this issue started. Fights are basically unplayable at the moment. I tried to lower graphic settings but didn't help. If it's impossible to build large empires in X4 then the game is pointless for me. I had much bigger complexes in X3 and outside those sectors the game was fine.
