[1.5] Wings are broken
If you assign a ship as a wing to an NPC ship to protect it, like for example a fighter assigned to a trader. The "defender" ship will simply fly ahead and wait at the mission marker. Which in the case of a trader, is whatever station they're docking at next. Leaving the slow trader behind and just protecting the station instead. Makes the entire thing absolutely useless, and makes it almost impossible to protect your traders from pirates.
Interestingly enough, if you set up a "no orders default to" protection order for the fighter to protect the trade ship without using the assignment mechanic, they instead duly follow the trader around. But now they're both marked as unassigned in the property menu.... but then stop following at the next waypoint.
If you could, like, combine these. That'd be great.

I do think wings work mostly (not very well, but they work!).cTrix wrote: ↑Fri, 21. Wings are intended for military squads.
Idon't think they will work with traders. Wings work quite well if all ships have the same speed.

Re: [1.5] Wings are broken
to remove clutter in My Property list, I managed to join all my laser towers in a wing.
But it is bugged and they work like "defend leader of wing".
Solution: we need checkbox "Hide from property menu" for every object and option Show/Hide hidden objects, just like it was in X3TC.

This has been around for quite some time now

This would be bs, how would one assign an escort to a miner or trader then? This should be set with formations, but they don't seem to work at the moment.

Well, if you want to escort a ship, set the ship on escort, don't make a wing.Sirkillmenot wrote: ↑Fri, 21. Dec 18, 18:41 viewtopic.php?f=180&t=405751&p=4777446#p4777446

Yes, I can do that, and it's fine if you only have a few ships. But when I have 20 miners/traders with 2-3 escort ships each having them displayed in wings is much handier instead of a long lists of single ships.
It's also counterintuitive since when you select the fighter and use "Defend" with right-click it automatically makes/adds it to the wing.

You can however, solve this easily by naming them with letters, so you see instantly which ships belong together.Sirkillmenot wrote: ↑Sat, 22. Yes, but this could also easily be solved by fixing wings!ApoxNM wrote: ↑Sat, 22. *Mind blown*
You can name 20 more ways of going around this bug, but we're only here to tell Egosoft that wings are bugged and not working atm so they can fix it.

Really? It could be fixed by by fixing it? Yea totally mind blown, I had no idea bugs could be fixed.
Anyways, I was trying to suggest a work around because you can be sure till jan/feb you will not get any fixes.

+1 on this topic. Sick of losing freighters or auto-traders because the Wings speed up or just randomly stop somewhere for a coffee break.
Nor does the log book use any type of priority identification (e.g. colour coding) to highlight when my ships die.

Does the winged life destroy,
But he who kisses joy as it flies
Lives in eternities sunrise.

Re: [1.5] Wings are broken
I found interesting workaround for this while trying to solve different problem.
One of my ships completely refuses to set it behavior to “escort” when added to a wing. It uses “follow” instead.
I tried different combination of commands and found out that if I manually set default behavior to “protect”, and then add ship to wing it won’t change default behavior setting. Thus default remains “protect ship” while being a wing subordinate to that ship.
Due to unreliable nature of this workaround (fixing bugs by using another bugs) it may not work for someone else, but it definitely works for me.
