Question about opting in/out of beta builds

Post by Drake »

If I opt into the beta can I revert back to the stable branch once Egosoft deploys 1.5? I ask because I did opt into the 1.3 beta and it broke my saves as the beta went to 1.31 and they deployed the stable patch of 1.3. All my saves were listed as the wrong version and greyed out, I could not load them.

Just curious if anyone knows of a way to alter a game save or force the game to load a save in this situation, otherwise to me the beta branch is dangerous and not worth playing with any save you have put time into. I know they recommend backing your save up but that does not solve being able to drop back out of the beta and still play a save that has 50 hours into it. i really want to try out some of the new features but as I said, I am worried that I will not be able to revert back to the stable if I do.

Aren`t you supposed to Save your original save somewhere else first? that way you can drop that back in when the finished version is released.

As I understand it, once you go to a Beta your progression from that point does not really exist. You`re a tester and you can`t use the beta Save once the beta is done.

2. Stations need sirens/warnings when enemy is close in numbers or Station in danger of destruction (in Sandbox).
Yes, for immersion. Thankyou ahead of time. (Edit: This is actually happening!!!)

It's not recommended to keep saves from beta versions (hence why Egosoft strongly recommends backing up your saves BEFORE using beta builds), but once the final release version comes out, you should be able to keep your beta save (provided it's not broken in any way by using the beta version).

Right, thank you for the replies. I understand the idea of backing a save up but I also like the idea of progressing in the game instead of regressing. Meaning if I dump time into a beta build, I really would not like to have to load up an old save file and lose the time I spent in that beta build. Make sense? Not being snarky, just trying to find a way to enjoy and progress with the beta, and if the finished build is different enough from the deployed build then I understand and can eat the time lost.

Edit: I get that we are beta testing the build so if there is no way to turn that save from a beta back to the normal build it was being built on I understand totally. I simply want to dive into 1.5 as it has a LOT of features that are currently driving me nuts is all.

Update:

On a whim I decided to uncompress and create a save file. I looked at it in N++ and I see that line 5 looks like a marker for the version, I wonder if you could change this marker to make it appear to be a lower version and load a save into say the stable branch. I know it is not the safest idea but still an idea, I am going to artificially tell the save it is of a version higher, see if the game will not allow me to load it, then change it to a lower version and try that.
