Shots often pass through targets, zero damage

Post by Scoob »

Hey all,

So, we know that aiming isn't always the AI's strong suit, but then most of my guys are Rookies, so perhaps that's by design.

Anyway, I've been watching my patrolling ships engaging various Xenon and Kha'ak invaders in my sector. Sure, they miss...a lot, but I'm also noticing that often, when they don't miss, shots go clean through the target without doing any damage. At first, I thought the shots must simply be missing, but they're passing just the other side of the target I'm watching. However, that's not the case. I'm seeing shots passing clean through ships - both my own and Kha'ak / Xenon - with no doubt as to what's occurring. I have a ship attacking from one side of a target and the shots appearing the other side, but zero damage dealt! When beams are in play, this become even more obvious.

Game is running at a decent FPS during these fights, between 55 and 60 vSync'd, and with beams phasing through too, it certainly not any kind of "skipping" issue with fast projectiles that I can see.

So, can anyone else confirm this at all? I often sit and watch battles jumping from ship-to-ship in third-person view, so perhaps I notice this more than most. I've never known it occur when I'm the one fighting.

As an interesting aide, I was watching a large group my ships - mostly nimble fighers - attacking a single Kha'ak fighter. They were generally causing ZERO damage, due to missing and this weird passing through issue. However, the moment I stopped watching in third person, the Kha'ak's shield were brought down in seconds, with its hull following moments later. So, it appears that watching the fight can trigger this issue.

Of course, I'm aware of the difference between In-Sector and Out of Sector, however there also appears to be a distinction between in-sector and watched in-sector too.
