Need autosave increment modifier

Post by loubert »

Need to be able to set the time between autosaves. SO SICK of losing more than an hour of progress because I didn't manually save and some dumbass bug just rendered my current situation undesirable.

Like now. Just ordered my ship to dock at my other ship. Docking ship got stuck on the ring of a jump gate - then got thrown outside the galaxy. Like, the line from the docking ship to the dock ship points so far outside the galaxy, I can't scroll that far. Go to load an autosave - oh look, NO AUTOSAVE HAS BEEN MADE because the increment is something stupid like two hours or something.

Saving often is good advice for any game. But I shouldn't have to save before literally every action in order to manage bugs like this. If the autosave actually saved at a decent increment or one I could adjust, I wouldn't feel like I need to.

An incremental autosave wouldn`t save this unless you had it saving every 5 minutes. I don`t use it because it was saving at all the ``wrong`` times. And let`s be honest, how can it know the perfectly right times to save?

Manual saves is better. The Human brain, if one uses it, is far better at discerning the correct time to save.
1. Please do more on NPC civilian/uniform variety, and bio customisations, Devs.
2. Stations need sirens/warnings when enemy is close in numbers or Station in danger of destruction (in Sandbox).
Yes, for immersion. Thankyou ahead of time. (Edit: This is actually happening!!!)

Really?

If I could set it to half an hour, well, that's half an hour I lost instead of an hour. If I could set it to 15 minutes, that means I have 3 saves in every hour I can go back to, and failing that, I can load a manual save.

You're really going to argue against a useful autosave function? Really? Okay then. And just ignore the content of my first post, where I indicated that the game currently requires saving in places that are not obvious, thanks mainly to bugs. Unless you're going to save before literally every action, manual saving and "your brain" aren't good enough.

The problem i hade with the autosave, was that it sometimes saved mid combat.

and in one case, right a few seconds before i died. i seriously hate autosave that randomly happens midgame, i prefered it more X3 styl, only on docking.

I really wouldn't mind that. Hell, I wouldn't mind having to purchase the ability to manually save (ala X3) if the autosave function was actually useful.
