Scaling missions?

Do the mission pay more as I get a better rep? At the moment they dont seem too, i can just pickup lockbox missions and make an easy 200k from the start, seems way too easy. In X3 at the beginning there were a very small amount of mission I could complete with my low level ship and some mission weren't even offered unless my combat or trade reputation was high enough. I feel like I'm almost at endgame already and I've hardly needed to do anything.
