[1.32] FPS drop

Post by Bambilambi76 »

Hey,

I am sorry if this is the wrong way but I if it is wrong please delete this one and give me a personal message.

So I bought the game before 1.32, and tested the game with my computer.
The GPU was close to minimum standards on the negative side, but my CPU was ok (middle between min and recommended according to online benchmark. Asus ROG G751jy (laptop with GTX 980m GPU and a I7-4710HQ CPU)

I made sure to test the game and it worked fine, deciding to keep the game. Then came the 1.32 patch and even though I still can get 110+ FPS on more empty areas, when battles occurs close to the argon equipment dock where the start is i tank down to 20-35 fps. In my opinion this is pretty unplayable. I have only 4 hours played on steam where i purchased the CE. I will not touch the game until a patch is out, or when I am close to 2weeks.

My questions here are the following:

1. Will this improve or am i toast fps wise?
2. If this is the case and this change will be permanent can I get help from you the company in returning the game (4 hours played, where two normally is max without special cirumstances) due to a change in the demands of the game.

Loved X3 and like what I am seeing in X4, but i wont buy a new computer for just one game:)
Also I have the dxdiag and the vulcan info... but I cant for the life of me find the attach button:)

Re: [1.32] FPS drop or possibly help with refund

Framerates will vary according to circumstances. Unlike most games, we don't artificially limit what is in a "level" or what can be on-screen at once, not to mention that we also simulate the full game universe in the background. If your system is close to the bottom end of the system requirements then of course it will struggle more in those very busy situations. We are always looking at ways to improve performance of our games, and of course we focus on those areas that perform the least well, but we cannot promise to "magic away" the fact that a busy sector means more work for the CPU to do (and the GPU too, but that's not an issue so often with our games). The minimum and recommended requirements are there for good reason; we know that the game is demanding, and we set those requirements accordingly.

That said, if you are experiencing particularly poor performance near stations then you may be suffering from a sound-related problem that a number of people have run into. Try disabling the NVIDIA sound device that comes with your graphics card in Device Manager so that the game can run with your on-board sound. Also try the very latest NVIDIA drivers which some people have reported help alleviate this issue somewhat.

Finally. with regard to Steam refunds, contrary to popular belief, that is not something we have any real influence over.

Thank you for the prompt response. And good tip, I will try that.
It was just so weird that change, but perhaps i was close to a bottleneck that suddenly was crossed.
It was a gamble, when my GPU was "slightly" below minimum requirements.

About refund. Yeah I guessed as much, Im not really a "pro-steam-gamer" and good to know about the working relationship between steam and gamedevelopers. But i felt it prudent to ask just in case.

In the end. No worries, if it doesnt work (playing or refund) then atleast I have supported a company that makes games I like to play
and perhaps I will get a better computer in a year or two when the DLCs are out.

Feel free to delete this support question, it isnt really a support question in the normal sense i think.
