how do I assign a ship to a station so that it can buy goods for that station?

Goto property window (Shift+P).
Select ship that you want to assign.
Right click on station in the list.
In context menu (at bottom) select something Defend, Trade, Mine for station.
And at last - please do not yell on forums, it is rude.

You can also do it from the map. Select the ship you want to assign, right-click on the station and select "Trade for...", "Mine for..." or "Defend". The ship then appear as a subordinate of that station in you properties list.

So, I managed to assign the ship to my station. But he wants to buy and sell wares.
I checked him out in behaviour and it listed all the intermediate items that I don’t want to buy or sell because I make my own. So I edit the list but it keeps resetting.

If I leave him with the preset behavoir. And set jumps to 5. He just sits in sector and goes nowhere. I got 10 mill in station account and 30 mil for station improvements.

So I am manually trading with two ships atm.

And that you added required money to station budget.

And that you played tutorial about stations and/or some guides about stations on you tube.

And read manual is also good think because X games were not easy ones.
