How to get station subordinates to sell wares

So I have built about 6x Smart Chip Production modules on my PHQ, and I have a manager and 4 subordinate Hermes Sentinels. Production is running quite smoothly, unfortunately despite massive buy offers in nearby sectors from equipment docks and shipyards and warfs, none of my Hermes Sentinels seem to want to sell any of the smart chips. Occasionally ships will dock at my PHQ to purchase some smart chips, and thats nice and I can see the occasional drop in smart chip storage / rise in manager account from that, but I never seem to catch them going out to sell smart chips. Sometimes I see them sitting on their duffs at base when there are sales to be made. What am I doing wrong?

And check if Smart Chips are even on the list for your designated traders. You might have assigned them to the station before your smartchips production plants were even in place.

Looks like its automatically setup to trade all the wares that the station can buy or sell.

Yep, I have this installed and was the only way to get certain ships to sell certain goods. I have already posted dozens of times, that stuff like this should be in the base game.

So I got the mod setup and confirmed its running in the extensions menu. As expected, my warebasket isn't being clobbered by the station manager. I've set 2 of my Hermes Sentinels to only trade Smart Chips, and now they are both just floating around PHQ like they have nothing better to do despite an abundance of buy offers well above my selling price within their gate range.

Anyone have any word on whether this is a bug or an intentional lack of feature?

Wow - SEVEN YEARS ago and this has still not been addressed by the devs - makes the game feel like abandonware.

I googled for exactly the same problem and this was in the top 3 answers.
